  • Sculpted Prims with Maya – Modeling, Texturing, Exporting
  • This short tutorial implies that you know the basics of Maya. Please refer to the many available Maya Tutorials on the net on how to work with materials (textures) and how to apply them to objects. Just one quick tip: Many drag-and-drop operations in Maya are done with the middle mouse button. You can apply textures/materials to objects this way as well as moving materials from the upper window in the Hypershade Editor to the lower window in order to edit the material (right mouse button -> Graph). With the method described below you can use all methods that Maya offers to texture and light your object and then export the resulting texture to SL. The result is a straight bitmap; I haven’t yet worked with transparencies (alpha), but that should be perfectly possible, too. The process of converting all the Maya materials and lights into one single texture is called baking. Its big advantage is that all UV mapping coordinates are generated automatically and you can precisely texture even very complex sculpty prims. Depending on the texturing method you use in Maya, the texturing in Maya is more or less work. I used 3D materials in this tutorial – they “wrap” themselves around a 3D object automatically and don’t need any manual editing of texture coordinates. • Nikon 35 mm Film Scanner LS-30 User's Guide
  • The LS-30 is a high-speed, high-resolution scanner capable of producing images suited to a wide variety of tasks, including desk- top publishing, design, and multi-media publishing. Its modular design allows you to change from scanning 35 mm slides to scanning 35 mm strip film “on the fly.” An adapter for scanning IX240 film is available separately. The LS-30 uses a high-speed SCSI interface for connection to computers running Mac OS System Software 7.1 or later, Windows 95 or later, or Windows NT 4.0 or later. The scanner driver software provided with your scanner, Nikon Scan 2.1, offers sophisticated pre-scan editing of images, including precise color correction, contrast, and brightness adjustment. Nikon Scan can be launched from any TWAIN-compliant application under Windows or from any application that supports Adobe Photoshop plug-ins (version 4.0 or higher) on the Macintosh. Nikon Scan can also be used as a “stand-alone” application, allowing you to save scanned images to disk without the help of another application. The user’s manuals for the LS-30 and Nikon Scan are divided into three parts. This User’s Guide offers a brief introduction to setting up the scanner and scanning images using Nikon Scan. More detailed reference manuals for the scanner and for Nikon Scan are provided on CD-ROM. To read these manuals you will need to install the Adobe Acrobat Reader software included on the refer- ence CD. In addition, a one-page Fast Track Guideis provided for experienced users who want to get started with the minimum of instruction. Where appropriate, this

Harpoon tur a CAD file into a finished mesh with three clicks of a mouse. Proprietary meshing algorithms enable the software to process up to two million cells per minute on standard hardware. A HEX-dominant structure within Harpoon eures better quality cells, even if CAD data is poor. And, Harpoon automatically checks the generated mesh for incoistencies and repai any sub-par cells. Surface geometry is brought into Harpoon through STL (surface triangulation) files that can be created in any CAD package or in Download PDF
  • Microsoft MapPoint KeyNote
  • More than 15 million geographic queries hit the Microsoft MapPoint Web Service every day, supporting thousands of different mission-critical applications around the world. The MapPoint Web Service is a location and mapping platform that allows developers to easily build location-based services into applications such as Web site locators, fleet and asset tracking applications, call-center applications, and more. Hosted by Microsoft Corp., the MapPoint Web Service contains the cartographic, demographic, business listing, construction, traffic and other data and provides the programmatic access to maps and driving directions, addresses and places, and proximity searches that many businesses rely on in their day to day processes. To ensure that Microsoft’s promises will be upheld, the MapPoint Web Service uses the Keynote Performance Scoreboard and Keynote Diagnostic Service (KDS) for quick response to any potential performance problem. If the MapPoint Web Service was unavailable or performing poorly, then MapPoint Web Service customers’ applications could fail, and customers might be unsatisfied. To give customers confidence while using the MapPoint Web Service, Microsoft guarantees 99.9% up time. That means the MapPoint Web Service operations team must find and fix any potential problems with the MapPoint Web Service as soon as possible to prevent any down time. • Metaballs in Cinema 4D
  • Metaballs are pieces of geometry (balls, cubes, cylinders, etc.) that, in the case of C4D, have attractive ‘forces’ attached to them. When these metaball objects come into proximity, they stretch their surfaces towards each other – the extent to which they stretch relative to their distance, as well as how smoothly the bridging geometry is created are parameters that the user can control. We’ll begin by creating a simple custom metaball object so that you can become familiar with the metaball concept and controls. Then we’ll go over how to import and turn into a metaball a simple PDB file for export to Maya. Open Cinema 4D – in order to navigate the viewport as you would in Maya, go to the Edit pull-down menu at the very top of the interface (not the viewport panel Edit!). Go to Edit ? Preferences… , and in the default “Common” tab (highlighted in red) activate the “Reverse Orbit” checkbox. Now, when you are in the main ‘Perspective’ viewport, you can alt+RMB to tumble, alt+MMB to move, and alt+LMB to zoom. Download pdf Metaballs in Cinema 4D
  • Importing Microsoft Access tables to SAS Datasets
  • There are several ways to import Microsoft Access tables into SAS. They are as follows: 1) Using SAS/ACCESS to ODBC: 1) SAS/CORE, SAS/BASE and SAS/ACCESS interface to ODBC licensed and installed at your site. 2) The Microsoft Access ODBC driver must be installed and configured on your PC. 3) Use the following code to read the Microsoft Access file into a SAS dataset. Libname sasuser ‘c:foo’; Proc SQL; Connect to ODBC (prompt); Create table sasuser.TEST As select * from connection to ODBC (select * from tablename); disconnect from odbc; quit; - ‘Prompt’will activate a pop-up window where you can choose your data source name. Alternatively, you can use ‘DSN=’in the parenthesis and specify your data source name. - ‘sasuser.TEST’ is the name of the SAS dataset you will create from this query. - ‘tablename’must be the specific unit of data that we are reading. For Microsoft Access the DSN references the database(.MDB file), and the ‘tablename’refers to the table in the database. Download pdf Importing Microsoft Access tables to SAS Datasets
