  • Clay Render with Wires
  • In this tutorial, you will learn how to render out any object with a clay material, and how to add wireframe. For this tutorial you will need a novice to intermediate knowledge about 3DS Max, or your preferred 3d application. In this tutorial, I will be using 3DS Max 9, so if you have an older version or if you are using a different 3d application, your button configuration maybe slightly different. To begin, open 3D Max or your preferred 3D application. Insert your model or any object that you wish to give this effect to. For this tutorial, I will use a simple primitive, a sphere. Once you have the object that you wish to apply the effect to in the scene, open your Material Editor by pushing the keyboard shortcut or "Hotkey" M, or click on the four spheres in the main toolbar. Once you have the Material Editor open, select the Diffuse color, and then change it to a light brown color. Double click the color in the Diffuse slot. The Color Selector : Diffuse Color Menu with pop up. Now, choose a nice light brown color. I used R: 220; G: 205; B: 165. Download pdf Clay Render with Wires

  • Collaborative Storytelling in the Web 2.0
  • Prosuming is one of the magic activities of the Web 2.0. The idea that media con- sumers can become media producers has been validated with all its pros and cons in systems like YouTube and Flickr.com. There is a re-newed discussion about expert and amateur cultures or even cults [3]. Especially, making movies was thought to be an area where only teams of highly specialized experts equipped with a lot of money can produce high quality movies with a world-wide audience. But next to Hollywood other production centers emerged like ”Bollywood” in India or ”Nollywood” in Nigeria with local practices. YouTube has proven that amateurishly produced content can fascinate people on the Internet. We want to combine both worlds, multimedia production knowledge and Web 2.0 production knowledge shall be united for serving the knowledge sharing needs for a society who has not forgotten the power of stories, yet. In learning processes, the substantial challenge is also maintaining and extending learners’ expertise and knowledge. As stated in [2], way that people get information to solve problems is through their social networks. Moreover, people rely on other people to get information and learn. Some knowledge is easy to be acquired and mastered when it is not impersonal, because emotions might be involved and motivation is more clear. Storytelling is an efficient means to fulfill learning goals [11]. Knowledge is exchanged within communities when stories are told. Non-linear storytelling is kind of interaction between communities and media, in order to keep people by certain

  • PICmicro MCU C - An introduction to programming The Microchip PIC in CCS C
  • The C language was development at Bell Labs in the early 1970’s by Dennis Ritchie and Brian Kernighan. One of the first platforms for implementation was the PDP-11 running under a UNIX environment. Since its introduction, it has evolved and been standardized throughout the computing industry as an established development language. The PC has become a cost effective development platform using C++ or other favored versions of the ANSI standard. C is a portable language intended to have minimal modification when transferring programs from one computer to another. This is fine when working with PC’s and mainframes, but Microcontrollers and Microprocessors are different breed. The main program flow will basically remain unchanged, while the various setup and port/peripheral control will be micro specific. An example of this is the port direction registers on a PICmicro®MCU are set 1=Input 0=Output, whereas the H8 is 0=Input and 1=Output. The use of C in Microcontroller applications has been brought about by manufacturers providing larger program and RAM memory areas in addition to faster operating speeds. An example quoted to me – as a non believer – was: to create a stopclock function would take 2/3 days in C or 2 weeks in assembler. ‘Ah’ I hear you say as you rush to buy a C compiler – why do we bother to write in assembler? It comes down to code efficiency – a program written in assembler is typically 80% the size of a C version. Fine on the larger program memory sized devices but not
  • Preparing Your Working Environment
  • In order to avoid any headaches while going through the case studies in this book, it's best to install the necessary software and configure your environment the right way from the start. Although we assume you already have some experience developing PHP applications, we'll quickly go through the steps to install your machine with the necessary software. The good news is that all the required software is free, powerful, and (finally!) comes with installers that make the programs easy for anyone to set up and configure. The bad news is that there are many possible configurations, so the instructions written might not apply 100% to you (for example, if you are using Windows, you may prefer to use IIS instead of Apache, and so on). We'll cover the installation instructions separately for Windows and *nix based machines. We'll also cover preparing the database that is used in many examples throughout the book; these instructions apply to both Windows and *nix users, so be sure not to miss this section at the end of the appendix. To build websites with AJAX and PHP you will need (quite unsurprisingly) to install PHP. The preferred version is PHP 5, because we use some of its features in Chapter 11. You also need a web server. We will cover installing Apache, which is the web server preferred by most PHP developers and web hosting companies. Because we've tried to make the examples in this book as relevant as possible for real-world scenarios, many of them need
