  • Introduction GAMBAS - Gambas Almost Means Basic (Linux Bangalore 2004) PDF
  • Introduction Gambas is a Linux replacement for Visual Basic (but by no means it’s a clone). It is a free development software based on a Basic interpreter. To put it in short, it is a Basic Language with object extensions. If a RAD tool is required for say designing a GUI or a front-end to access MySQL or PostgreSQL database, then Gambas is the tool. KDE pilot application and network applications (with the Gambas Network ToolBox) can also be designed. Also Gambas has multilingual support and thus a program can be translated into many languages. • Moscow ML Owner’s Manual
  • Moscow ML implements Standard ML (SML), as defined in the 1997 Definition of Standard ML, including the SML Modules language and some extensions. Moreover, Moscow ML supports most required parts of the SML Basis Library. It supports separate compilation and the generation of stand-alone executables. This document explains how to use the Moscow ML system. A companion document, the Moscow ML Language Overview, summarizes Moscow ML syntax and the most common built-in functions [9]. Another companion document, the Moscow ML Library Documentation, describes in detail all Moscow ML library modules [10]. Get a copy of the Moscow ML system executables (see Section 20 for instructions) and unpack them in your home directory (under Unix) or in directory C: (under MS Windows and DOS). This creates a directory mosml. Read the flle mosml/install.txt. This manual, as well as the Moscow ML Language Overview and the Moscow ML Library Documentation, are in directory mosml/doc. The interactive system is invoked by typing mosml at the shell prompt. It allows you to enter declarations and evaluate expressions: You can quit the interactive session by typing ‘quit();’ or control-D (under Unix) or control-Z followed by new- line (under MS Windows and DOS). Type help “lib”; for an overview of built-in function libraries, and e.g. help “Array” for help on Array operations. See Section 3 for further information on mosml. Download Moscow ML Owner’s Manual

  • Accessibility of Emerging Rich Web Technologies: Web 2.0 and the Semantic Web
  • Web 2.0 is a new approach to Web content, making it more interactive and allowing sites to combine features in new ways. This change in paradigm brings new challenges to people with disabilities. Accessibility advocates must develop solutions rapidly. Semantic Web technologies address some of these requirements, and accessibility innovation may be part of A convergence of the Web 2.0 and Semantic Web. The term “Web 2.0” describes new characteristics of the Web. New types of services are made possible by the ability of sites to share or aggregate data, and for users to be part of the authoring process. For users, it is often characterized by much greater interactivity, with users able to influence what is presented to them. Often the content changes or updates frequently, such as in games, flight trackers, stock tickers, etc. In many ways there is a more desktop-like experience, in which Web applications converge with the features of ordinary applications. This is an emergent aspect of the combination of existing technologies supported by the open nature of the architecture of the Web. Although Web 2.0 applications behave increasingly like desktop applications, they continue to use Web technologies for content transmission, encoding, and presentation. These technologies are used or combined in novel ways that lack the accessibility features that have been built over years into their platform-specific counterparts and are just becoming effectively mainstream in “Web 1.0” content. Web 2.0 thus presents significant risks to accessibility. Because Web 2.0 is an emergent phenomenon rather than a specific technology or

Fn key function Contrary to what is stated in the User’s Reference, the Fn+F11 combination does not change the processor speed. Instead, the key combination switches between power modes as follows: Maximum Performance Customized Maximum Battery Life Setting for the TrackPoint The User’s Reference in the “Disabling the TrackPoint” section describes how to set Auto-Disable if you are using certain mouse types, but actually the TrackPoint is set to Auto-Disable as the default. With this setting, the TrackPoint is disabled automatically if a mouse is connected to the external-input-device connector if any of the following is true: – The system is starting. – The system is resuming from suspend mode. – Your computer is attached to the ThinkPad Port Replicator with Advanced EtherJet Feature. If no external mouse is connected, the TrackPoint remains enabled. A mouse that is compatible with the IBM PS/2 Miniature Mouse can work simultaneously with the TrackPoint if the TrackPoint is set to Enable. To enable the TrackPoint, do as follows: 1 Start the ThinkPad Configuration program. 2 Click the TrackPoint ( ) button. 3 Click Enable for the TrackPoint. • Learning the JavaFX Script Programming Language - Tutorial Overview
  • The JavaFX Script programming language lets you create modern looking applications with sophisticated graphical user interfaces. It was designed from the ground up to make GUI programming easy; its declarative syntax, data binding model, animation support, and built-in visual effects let you accomplish more work with less code, resulting in shorter development cycles and increased productivity. This tutorial is your starting point for learning the JavaFX Script programming language. It focuses on the fundamentals only: that is, on the underlying, non-visual, core constructs that are common to all FX applications. When finished, you will be ready for Building GUI Applications with JavaFX, the second tutorial in this series. After that, the Media Browser tutorial will walk you through the complete end-to-end development of a real-world application. In addition, advanced developers will be interested in the JavaFX Script Programming Language Reference and Application Programming Interface (API) documentation. These reference documents provide a lower-level discussion of the syntax, semantics, and supported libraries of the JavaFX Script programming language and SDK. The lessons in this tutorial include: Lesson 1: Getting Started with JavaFX Script — Provides software download and installation instructions, plus a discussion on choosing an appropriate development environment. Lesson 2: Writing Scripts — Provides an introduction to compiling source code, running an application, declaring script variables, and invoking script functions. Lesson 3: Using Objects — Provides an introduction to objects, showing how to declare an object literal and how to invoke an object's functions. Lesson 4: Data Types — Discusses the built-in data types String, Number, Integer, Boolean
  • Diagra 2.0 Fund Charts – step-by-step tutorial
  • ReportLab’s Diagra product lets you create data-aware charts and drawings. It can be used in many industries and many ways. The most comprehensive documentation is in the main manual, ‘diagradoc.pdf’. This is a supplementary tutorial intending to provide step-by-step instructions for a first-time user. Many users are working in the fund management industry producing highly similar charts. This extra manual provides step-by-step tutorial to create several data-aware fund related charts. It is intended to be used with a sample database, delivered in a file ‘diagracharts.zip, which includes both data and runnable chart modules similar to the ones described herein. This manual is still being expanded, but should be sufficient to let a first-time user create a working data aware chart and carry out basic procedures. In the meantime feedback on what to add to this tutorial would be most welcome. Download pdf Diagra 2.0 Fund Charts – step-by-step tutorial
  • Secure Ecommerce Framework for the .NET Environment
  • Information and communication technologies continue to pervade our lives in various aspects which include health, education, entertainment and ecommerce. People need to be able to trust computer systems as the dependence on them increases. The Trustworthy Computing vision (CRA, 2003) refers to computer systems that are intuitive, controllable, reliable and predictable and that ensure availability and security. Secure cod- ing is not trivial and poor code security management may leave the developed web application vulnerable to attack or turn the application into a launch pad for serious attacks. This paper is organized as follows: Section 2 provides background information to secure coding in web applications. Section 4 outlines the aims and objectives of the project. Section 5 briefly describes the design of the developed secure framework. Section 6 highlights the achievements of the project and Section 7 presents a conclusion. 2 Background Security vulnerabilities in a system can be at the application, server and network level. Unpatched software, viruses and trojan horses may all expose a system to attack. These security issues should be addressed in any system; however these can easily be bypassed with an attack on a web application. The aim of this project is to focus on the application-level security vulnerabilities which are introduced in the next subsections. (Howard and LeBlanc, 2003) Web Application Vulnerabilities This section presents a brief overview of the most common security vulnerabilities found in ecommerce web applications. Cross-Site Scripting Cross-Site Scripting is a form of input validation vulnerability (Howard et al, 2005). Any web application that directly
