  • Over the last decade, research in parallel architectures has led to many new parallel systems. These systems range from multiprocessors with shared address spaces, multi-computers with distributed address spaces, to networks of high performance workstations. Furthermore, the development of high speed interconnection networks makes it possible to connect the systems together, forming a tremendous computational resource. An effective way to use these machines is to partition a computation into coarse-grain tasks. The current language support for this computing environment is, however, rather primitive: programmers must explicitly manage the hardware resources using low level communication and synchronization primitives. This paper presents Jade, a new language designed to simplify the expression of coarse-grain parallelism. Download Semantic Foundations of Jade pdf
  • Fiat Bravo/a & Marea - How to Renew your Bonnet Pin & Lock
  • This guide will show you how to renew your old existing Bonnet Pin and Lock. Please read this guide through at least once before fitting. Step 1. (Optional) Preparation prior to fitting Before you start removing your old parts you may want to consider preventing your new parts from corroding like the existing ones. You could smear a protective oil or grease over the exposed metal and rub it over or you could like myself spray paint the metal parts. Step 2. Draw around the Bonnet Pin Open bonnet and secure with the bonnet stay. It is important that you refit your new bonnet pin in the exact same position as the old one, so carefully with a pencil or dry marker, draw around the bonnet pin. Step 3. Removing Bonnet Pin Using a ratchet and a 10mm socket, slowly start to unscrew the two bolts holding the bonnet pin to the bonnet. If the bolts are rusty try to use some WD40 to help penetrate the rust. Step 4. Removing Air Intake Pipe Carefully remove the air intake pipe over the radiator using the 10mm socket on the three bolts highlighted below. Step 5. Unhooking the Bonnet Release Cable & Removing Lock Once the air intake pipe has been removed, you should now be able to see between the slam panel and the radiator. Carefully looking between and you’ll see the bonnet release cable. To detach the cable simple put a flat headed screwdriver into the position indicated by the red dot and carefully prise the cable out

  • MySQL Tutorial
  • Basic Database Terminology Many relational database concepts are really quite simple. In fact, much of the appeal of relational databases stems from the simplicity of their foundational concepts. Structural Terminology Within the database world, MySQL is classified as a relational database management system (RDBMS). That phrase breaks down as follows: • The database (the “DB” in RDBMS) is the repository for the information you want to store, structured in a simple, regular fashion: o The collection of data in a database is organized into tables. o Each table is organized into rows and columns. o Each row in a table is a record. o Records can contain several pieces of information; each column in a table corresponds to one of those pieces. • The management system (the “MS”) is the software that lets you use your data by allowing you to insert, retrieve, modify, or delete records. • The word “relational” (the “R”) indicates a particular kind of DBMS, one that is very good at relating (that is, matching up) information stored in one table to information stored in another by looking for elements common to each of them. The power of a relational DBMS lies in its capability to pull data from those tables conveniently and to join information from related tables to produce answers to questions that can’t be answered from individual tables alone. • Virtools Tutorial: How to Create Interactive Textures and an Orbital Camera
  • This tutorial shows how to create behaviors for interactive textures: scrolling, blending textures on the faces of a cube. We will work on one face of the cube with its specific material-shader and one texture “mountain.jpg”. Part 4 of this tutorial covers setting up an orbital camera. Part 1- In Maya, exporting a cube with textures Before exporting to Virtools, make sure that all faces inside the cube have their normals facing towards the inside of the cube. Go to Modeling, Display > Polygon Components > Normals Normals are represented with colored lines sticking out of the faces of the cube. The red arrow shows the way one normal should look like. • Mapping the Net: Revenge of the Physical World
  • Once upon a time, the Internet was a wholly virtual environment, moored only loosely to the physical world. It was where information went to become free, where censorship was routed around, where communities could leap barriers of distance and culture in a single bound . . . and where no one knew you were a dog. The kicker was that these aspects were built into the fabric of the Net, thanks to its origins in military communications research. You couldn’t tie the Net to the real world if you wanted to. The physical world is making a comeback, even online. With the collapse of the dot-com stock bubble, things like brick-and-mortar storefronts, tangible assets, face-to-face meetings and hard-dollar profits suddenly are fashionable again. Following the same pattern, the foundational assumption that Internet users and sites have no connection to geography is eroding. It’s now possible to determine with high levels of certainty where someone is connecting from. This allows for targeting of services and content, but also raises the possibility that physical-world laws will encroach on cyberspace. Like it or not, the era when one could confidently speak of the Net as a world apart is coming to a close. Profitability and traditional stock valuation metrics do matter in the end. Napster and MP3.com have been forced to restructure their offerings in response to pressure from the music industry. (Just before we went to press MP3.com was bought by a major record company, Vivendi Universal.) Most, though not all, of the largest
  • Load Balancing a Cluster of Web Servers
  • DNS was found to be of limited value for the purposes of load balancing and fault tolerance of scalable. Web server clusters. The research described in Load Balancing a Cluster of Web Serve † Using Distributed Packet Rewriting Luis Avea Azer Bestavros Lavea@cs.bu.edu Bestavros@cs.bu.edu Computer Science Department Boston Univeity Abstract In this paper, we present and evaluate an implementation of a prototype scalable web server. The prototype coists of a load-balanced cluster of hosts that collectively accept and service TCP connectio. The host IP addresses are advertised using the Round Robin DNS (RR-DNS) technique, allowing any host to receive requests from any client. Once a client attempts to establish a TCP connection with one of the hosts, a decision is made as to whether or not the connection should be redirected to a different host---namely, the host with the lowest number of established connectio. We use the low-overhead Distributed Packet Rewriting (DPR) technique [Bestavros, Crovella, Liu, and Martin 1998] to redirect TCP connectio. In our Download

  • Norton AntiVirus 9.0 for Macintosh User's Guide
  • A computer virus is a parasitic program written intentionally to alter the way your computer operates without your permission or knowledge. A virus attaches copies of itself to other files and, when activated, may damage files, cause erratic system behavior, or display messages. Computer viruses infect System files, or files stored in the System folder that the Macintosh computer uses to start up and documents created by programs with macro capabilities. Mac OS System files include kernel extensions (programs that load into memory when a Macintosh computer is started), and programs like those in Microsoft Office. Some computer viruses are programmed specifically to corrupt programs, delete files, or erase your disk. Macro viruses spread quickly Macros are simple programs that are used to do things such as automate repetitive tasks in a document or make calculations in a spreadsheet. Macros are written in files created by such programs as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Macro viruses are malicious macro programs that are designed to replicate themselves from file to file and can often destroy or change data. Macro viruses can be transferred across platforms and spread whenever you open an infected file. Trojan horses hide their true purposes Trojan horses are programs that appear to serve some useful purpose or provide entertainment, which encourages you to run them. But the program also serves a covert purpose, which may be to damage files or place a virus on your computer. A Trojan horse is not a virus because it does not replicate and spread like a virus.
