Load Testing Web 2.0 Technologies Ajax-RIA-SOA-Web ServicesWeb 2.0, RIA, AJAX and SOA are terms and abbreviations we hear and use on a daily basis. But do we know what they mean for us as professional performance testers? This document provides an overview of the relevant Web2.0 terms and elaborates on how to run performance tests on these applications. The document targets the performance testing professional as well as the R&D manager looking for information on how to prepare for this new era.
The internet world is evolving with new technologies and architecture models. Web2.0 is a major evolution of Internet applications and provides new options for internet application providers. Web2.0 enables improving the user experience, creating more efficient applications and increasing the productivity of the users and the enterprise.
People most often associate Web2.0 with user-generated content websites, typified by tagging content, blogging, wish lists, and RSS feeds. Some enterprise applications boast a recent Web 2.0 interface called “Enterprise 2.0”, but, issues of performance, privacy and personalization are still blocking many enterprises from adopting this new internet trend. On the other hand technology enablers, such as the SOA system architecture and RIA’s rich UI are likely to eventually converge with Web 2.0 concepts. RPM-based Installation
1. Unpack the downloaded image into a directory. For example,Currently, the following command would unpack into the current directory: tar xvzf Ooo_2.0.xxx_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz .
1. su to root, if necessary.
2. cd into the directory with the unpacked image. This could be RPMS.
3. Then execute rpm -Uvh *rpm for the standard installation in /opt. If you prefer to install in another directory, try rpm -Uvh --prefix // *.rpm or something similar. When relocating, only relocate the base rpms, in other words, do not include any user interface RPMs as these must go in their default locations for proper system integration.
Note: Upgrade the core first and then upgrade the user interface. Separating steps 3 and 4 ensures a good upgrade.
4. cd into the desktop-integration directory and execute rpm -Uvh for the menu rpm that applies to your system. For example, on a RedHat-based system, you would use rpm -Uvh openoffice.org-redhat-menus-.noarch.rpm or similar.
5. Download and install any language packs needed for OpenOffice.org. For example, if you relocated Openoffice.org, you need rpm -Uvh --prefix ///Developing Applications with WebLogic SIP ServerThe SIP Servlet API is a part of JAIN APIs and being standardized as JSR116 of JCP (Java Community Process). The SIP Servlet API version 1.0 was published in February, 2003.
Note: In this document, the term “SIP Servlet” is used to represent the API, and “SIP servlet” is used to represent an application created with the API. J2EE provides Java Servlet that is a main technology of building Web applications. Although Java Servlet is used only to develop HTTP protocol-based applications on a Web application server, it basically has functions as a generic API for server applications. SIP Servlet is defined as the generic servlet API with SIP-specific functions added.
SIP Servlets are very similar to HTTP Servlets, and HTTP servlet developers will quickly adapt to the programming model. The service level defined by both HTTP and SIP Servlets is very similar, and you can easily design applications that support both HTTP and SIP. Listing 1 shows an example of a simple SIP servlet.
