  • Aspira - How to update users or client data
  • The ASPIRA Association web site provides its users the capability to create “virtual communities” which allows interaction among like-minded individuals. The building block for establishing this interactivity are called “groups”. What are groups and what function they have? Groups are a collection of users who can share access to protected resources and tools. A group enables users with permissions (ASPIRA Staff members) to create and manage their own groups. ASPIRA Official groups are created by the webmaster, which has special permissions including the ability to delete the group the owner created. Group members or subscribers communicate amongst themselves using the group home page as a focal point. They do so by posting the usual content types: blog, story, web page, etc.; or by communicating via e-mail, chats, and they can also share documents. A block or menu is shown on the group home page that links to these group specific posts and actions. The block also provides summary information about the group. Groups membership may be selective or not. ASPIRA official groups are selective groups which require approval by the group administrator in order to become a member. This feature makes our groups and our members to interact on a safe environment. In order to allow an individual to belong “subscribe” to a group is by inserting a group code on his/her registration profile. ASPIRA groups are private groups which will not be displayed in a list of groups which can be viewed by non-ASPIRA members. As the group administrator you can: administer organic group

  • Software Development at Microsoft Observed
  • The Human Interactions in Programming (HIP) team in Microsoft Research applies human- centered research techniques to builds tools that improve the software development process. The joke goes, “we build tools as if software were made by people … working together.” As a human-centered effort, we draw from various research fields including human-computer interaction, information visualization, computer-supported cooperative work, and social computing. The central tenet of these fields is that one needs to understand the user in order to design tools to support them. To this end we have initiated a series of investigations to understand software development at Microsoft. Our research builds on a rich history of research into professional software development practices [1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7]. This document describes the process we used, what we learned, and directions for future user research. METHODOLOGY We performed two surveys and several face-to-face interviews of developers at Microsoft during the summer of 2005. The first survey contained 205 questions asking how developers spend their time, what tools they use, and the severity of various problems they face. We deployed it to 1000 architects, software developers and software test developers randomly selected from the Microsoft address book by job title. We received 157 responses, though the data presented here includes only the 104 responses from the developers. Next we performed semi-structured interviews with six software development leads and five software developers drawn from our survey respondents. Each was done by two interviewers, who took copious notes. Each interview lasted about an hour. Most

  • Maya 104: Dynamics
  • During this tutorial we’ll explore a number of features of Maya’s dynamics toolset. In part I - the ‘membrane pore tutorial’ - we’ll create a scene with a turbulent membrane that also has a ‘pore’ dynamically floating in it. Next we’ll create a swarm of molecules that collide with the membrane (and can otherwise only traverse it via the pore opening). We’ll gain finer control over the behavior of individual molecules in the swarm through the use of expressions. Finally, we’ll add goals to the entire swarm and control the degree to which these goals affect the swarm’s movement. In part II – the ‘blastocyst tutorial’ - we’ll look at how a piece of geometry can serve as a goal for particles. Specifically, we’ll create a blastocyst-stage embryo made up of blobby particles attracted to a sphere. We’ll control the behavior of these particles relative to the surface of the sphere. For the finale, we’ll squeeze the blastocyst out of the zona pellucida surrounding it by using a lattice deformer applied to the sphere. Download pdf Maya 104: Dynamics
