  • The ITS desktop support teams (Blue/Green) and other ITS staff members have started preparations for the introduction of Microsoft Vista and Office 2007/2008 to campus. This document summarizes the implementation plan. This plan description will be revised as needed. Campus Move to Microsoft Vista OS The Blue and Green Desktop Support Teams have been testing the Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise Edition OS for several months. The present plan is to begin to introduce the OS on new college-purchased PCs beginning late in the second quarter of 2008, probably with new system replacements starting in May or June. There is no plan to have a “forklift” introduction. Instead, the OS will be introduced as systems are replaced on their normal cycle. ITS has been purchasing “Vista compatible” systems for several months in anticipation of the upgrade, but has been installing Windows XP Professional Edition on those computers. These computers are ones that have adequate memory, disk space, and performance to support an upgrade to the Vista OS. It is possible that these Vista compatible computers will be upgraded from Windows XP to Vista, largely upon request and depending upon compatibility issues that could be uncovered. Current systems that are not presently equipped for Vista but that could be upgraded to a Vista compatible level will be considered for upgrade if the cost of doing so reasonably improves the utility of the system over its remaining life cycle. We provide UML diagrams for the subpackages, as well as code samples. 1.1 Setting up for the samples The samples have been written using the MySQL database (www.mysql.com), Tomcat (jakarta.apache.org/tomcat) and JBoss(www.jboss.org). We refer you to these web sites for setting up the environment correctly. This document will require you to use the command line. If you do not feel comfortable with using the command line, you should look for a ready made installer package. Why should I use the command line if there are ready made installer packages available? Short answer: Greater flexibility. Long answer: The packages available, reflect the creators' views on what should or shouldn't be included in the package.   • The RFL 98 TMX (Fig. 1) is a programmable telemetry transmitting module, capable of operating within wide input and output parameter ranges. It uses Digital Signal Processing (DSP) techniques to produce telemetry signals, having greater stability than conventional analog telemetry devices. The operating characteristics of the RFL 98 TMX can be changed by using the RFL 9800 Programmer/Calibrator, which plugs into a dedicated connector on the front of the module. RFL 98 TMX modules are designed for use in anRFL 9800 Series chassis. Each module requires five horizontal units (5E) of chassis space. Power and data connections are made through an RFL 98 DATA I/O 19-point I/O module, which is installed in the chassis directly behind the module. INSTALLATION Before the RFL 98 TMX can be placed in service, it must be installed in a chassis. Installation involves inserting an RFL 98 DATA I/O module into the rear of the chassis, connecting all signal and power wiring to the I/O module, checking the settings of all jumpers, and inserting the module into the front of the chassis.   • Active C# is a variant of Microsoft’s C# that enhances the basic language with a direct support for concurrency and a new model for object communication. The C# compiler of the Shared Sources Common Language Infrastructure (SSCLI) served as a basis to extend the compiler. Modifications mainly concern the enhancement of C# with an active object concept and a novel communication paradigm based on formal dialogs. The roots of Active C# can be found in a ROTOR project partially funded by Microsoft Research [Gu]. The concept of active objects and their synchronization comes from Active Oberon [Gk], a successor of the Oberon Language and from the Active Object System [Mu], an internally developed operating system microkernel. This paper presents a consolidation and enhancement of an experimental language concept introduced in the aforementioned ROTOR project. Active C# is an extension of C# which mainly includes two new technologies: active objects and formal dialogs. Both technologies support the seamless integration of threading into the programming model, with the aim of increased acceptance and use of concurrency in programs. The idea is that programmers do not need to call the underlying threading framework directly anymore but can still add concurrency to their programs simply by making appropriate use of the programming model.
