  • XML Gauge Programming for FS2004. Chapter 2. Interaction Sections
  • XML is a text based programming language. Therefore, the code can be written in a standard text editor. There are applications available specifically written for XML, but I have always used an enhanced shareware version of Notepad. If code is saved with a txt extension, rename with an xml extension. XML gauges usually consist of the xml file and bmp (bitmap) files, although gauges without bitmaps are quite common. This tutorial provides a general introduction to gauge interaction sections and their functions. If you read this tutorial second, it will give some good foundation information Colours have been used to group relative information, or to allow the reader to easily find references in code or text. There are essentially two ways to interact and communicate with a gauge. Mouse clicks and variable links. This tutorial will deal with mouse click communication. Variable links are a special type of variable that cross communicate between any numbers of gauges and will be dealt with in a further tutorial. Essentially, there will be areas on the gauge where the mouse cursor becomes active, and a click will perform a function The mouse section usually resides at the end of the gauge coding, although it can be positioned anywhere in the gauge code. However, the gauge is less ‘messy’ if it resides at the end. As stated in Chapter 1, XML gauges follow a common theme of being broken down into sections, each with an opening and closing instruction. The mouse section follows the same rules. The
  • Securing Web 2.0: are your web applications vulnerable?
  • The definition of Web 2.0 is still being debated despite extensive discussion. Its staunchest advocates proclaim it a complete philosophical and technological reworking of how the web functions. Others declare that it is meaningless. However, most agree on common characteristics of a Web 2.0 application, such as increased interactivity, the acceptance of user input for building community and a reliance on client-side functionality. Additionally, Web 2.0 applications can be more vulnerable to exploitation by hackers than their predecessors. Hackers spend most of their time gathering information. When Web 2.0 applications push functionality and code to users, they provide hackers with information that can be used for formulating attacks. Often, old attacks such as cross-site scripting become more dangerous when used against Web 2.0 applications. This white paper defines some of the common technological components of Web 2.0 applications and discusses ways of securing them against exploitation. Web 2.0 components Web 2.0 uses the web for delivering information that is often created through community contribution. Wikis and blogs are good examples of these types of appli cations. The main attribute of a Web 2.0 application is interactivity. More functionality is on the client, and less is on the server. As a result, requests are updated in the browser without refreshing the entire page. For example, consider Google Maps. Instead of a static page, you can drill down or zoom in and out of a map without making requests for a new page. You can use several key technologies—or more appropriately, groupings of different

  • The isometric view rules again Commandos 2: Men of Courage is regarded by many (including myself) the best squad strategy in the entire series, even better than the last attempt. It mattered not that it was only 2D and that it was built entirely on sprites, the felling of accomplishment and the variations has turned this game in a must have for any gamer. This is one of the few games that can appeal to most players, even if some of them might prefer specific genres like first person shooter or simple strategies. • Automating JMP
  • The purpose of this paper is to provide information on getting started with automating JMP® 6 using C# .NET. This document discusses how to automate the more common tasks involved in analyzing data such as how to create a data table, run an analysis, display options within the analysis, select portions of the analysis report, and save results to a file. The final section describes the interface between automation and the JMP Scripting Language (JSL). This paper does not discuss how to setup a project or create forms. The code provided was written using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003. How to Create a Data Table There are several methods for creating a JMP data table. • Open a file with a known extension. • Open a table within a database. • Open a text file. • Create the table from scratch. • Mobile Web 2.0: The new frontier
  • The main focus of this research is on the support and enhancement of face to face teaching and learning by using wireless mobile devices (WMDs or smartphones) as a means to leverage the potential of current and emerging collaborative and reflective e-learning tools (e.g. blogs, wikis, RSS, instant messaging, podcasting, social book marking, etc…). These are often called “social software” or web2.0 tools. The research project links the use of freely available mobile friendly web2.0 tools accessed via a smartphone with the learning objectives of a variety of different tertiary education courses. The smartphone’s wireless connectivity and data gathering abilities (e.g. photoblogging, video recording, voice recording, and text input) allow for bridging the on and off campus learning contexts – facilitating “real world learning”. The research is focusing on social constructivist approaches to education (Bijker et al., 1987; Lave & Wenger, 1991; Vygotsky, 1978; Wenger et al., 2002) and a conversational model (Laurillard, 2001, 2007) of teaching and learning. The disruptive nature of web2.0 and mobile technologies (Sharples, 2000, 2001, 2005; Stead, 2006) facilitates a move from instructivist pedagogies to social constructivist pedagogies. The personal, social networking, and context awareness of mobile devices democratise power relationships and are best suited to open learning environments. Disruptive technologies are those technologies that challenge established systems and thinking, requiring change and are thus viewed by many as a threat to the status quo. Disruptive technologies democratise institutional learning environments challenging the established power relations between teachers and students. Mishra et al (2007) argue that “appropriate
  • Design Compiler Reference Manual: Optimization and Timing Analysis
  • Pipelining is a technique commonly used to increase the throughput of designs that have deep levels of logic to meet high sampling rate requirements. The pipelining technique partitions blocks of combinational logic into n stages of equal delays, with the stages separated by banks of pipeline registers. Register balancing improves the performance of the pipeline design, by moving the registers through combinational logic, adding additional registers as needed, to reduce the clock period. In this chapter, you will learn about the following: • Basic Concepts • Considering Input and Output Delays • Handling Designs Having Hierarchy • Enabling Register Balancing • Inserting Pipeline Registers in a Design • Hints and Restrictions • Resetting Flip-Flops • Replacing Flip-Flops This chapter includes example methods of inserting the pipeline registers in a design through HDL and a script to convert simple flip-flops to asynchronously reset flip-flops.
