The PacketLogic Python APIPacketLogic has predefined user interfaces that are powerful and easy to use, such as the client and the Webstatistics. However, when the need arises to do something that is not defined in those interfaces, they are not possible for the end user to modify or customize. This is when using an API is very effective. Using the PacketLogic Python API provides access to virtually all the functionality available in the existing user interfaces, but with full possibilities to customize, integrate, and otherwise adapt the interface according to local and site-specific requirements. The Windows installer includes IDLE, a rudimentary development environment for Python. In IDLE, the scripts can be written and executed. IDLE is started with the PythonShell open, which is where the scripts are run and the output displayed. The Python shell also allows executing the scripts line by line, which is sometimes useful. For scripts of any non-negligible complexity, however, it is recommended to open a new window (Ctrl+N), write the script in the editor, save it, and execute it (by pressing F5 or selecting Run Module from the Run menu). 1) Because it's possible. (my favorite one!);

3) Because you need to access the database from applications other than Servoy and the bundled Sybase license does not allow to do this;
4) Because you want to access the same data that is published trough Apache/PHP on your own or your customer's website;
5) Because otherwise the Servoy Forum would be a boring place.
Anyways, spend five minutes of your spare time reading the MySQL License before deciding what DB Server you are going to build your Revolutionary App™ on... it is an unusual license and a lot of people are still uncertain if it's a free software or not. You decide.

The Google data APIs provide a simple standard protocol, called "GData", for reading and writing data on the web using either of two standard XML-based syndication formats: Atom or RSS. This module will handle all the basic stuff a developer shouldn't have to worry about when developing modules that extend its functionality such as data transfer, protocol adherence, and authentication. It will expose its own API which will allow other developers to create modules that easily interact with information provided by Google's many service APIs.
