  • MIDISport 1x1/2x2/2x4/4x4 User Guide
  • The MIDISPORT provides up to four independent MIDI input ports and up to four independent MIDI output ports, depending on which model you have. Each MIDI port supports 16 MIDI channels, therefore the MIDISPORT is capable of sending and receiving from 16 (1 port x 16 channels) to 64 (4 ports x 16) channels. MIDI is the acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface and is the protocol used when "MIDI" keyboards and devices that record and play back the "MIDI" information (computers and hardware "sequencers") communicate with each other. MIDI Interfaces such as the MIDISPORT are typically used to interface MIDI synthesizers with MIDI sequencing software. The USB port uses powerful technology that allows easy connection to a "host" computer. It supports multiple USB peripheral devices running simultaneously—all without having to configure jumpers, I/O addresses or DMA channels. On a PC—you must be running Windows XP, 2000, Me, or Windows 98 to properly install the MIDISPORT. Also, your motherboard must have native USB ports. It is possible for a motherboard to support USB and yet not have the physical port connectors installed. A simple USB back panel extender can be purchased at a computer supply store and can be installed easily to provide USB port connectors. It is recommended that during installation, you do not use a USB hub for connecting the MIDISPORT. Powered USB hubs can be used after the MIDISPORT is successfully installed. On an Apple Computer—your OS must support USB and your computer must have on-board USB ports. All current
  • A mSQL and perl Web Server Mini HOWTO
  • Everybody who wants to install a web server database but does not know which software is necessary and how it is installed should benefit from reading this text. This text provides all information necessary to get a SQL database for a web server going; it does not go into any detail of CGI programming, nor does it explain the SQL database language. Excellent books are available on both topics, and it is the intention of this text to provide a working platform based on which a user can then study CGI programming and SQL. For getting a small scale SQL system running (not the notorious example of a major airline booking system, or space mission management database) it will be sufficient to have the software described in this text and the documentation accompanying it. The user manual of msql (a database introduced in this text) provides sufficient information on SQL for building your own database. The reader of this text should have a working knowledge of how to obtain files via ftp if he has no access to CD?ROMs, and a basic understanding of how to build binaries from sources. Anyway, all steps explained in this text were tested on a real life system and should also work on the reader's system. It can be safely assumed that databases with a high volume of data or a complicated relational setup (like, perhaps, a lexical database for a living language) must be accessible to many users and operators at the same time. Ideally,

  • OpenSolaris Operating System Getting Started Guide For Amazon EC2
  • Sun and Amazon Web Services opened a private beta program starting on May 5, 2008. Approved beta users get access to OpenSolaris™ operating system (OS) at http://www.opensolaris.org/ on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). OpenSolaris on Amazon EC2 is an Amazon Web service that incorporates hardware virtualization technologies based on the Sun™ xVM software and the Xen open source community work. Information about Amazon EC2 is located at: http://aws.amazon.com/ec2 The Amazon EC2 AMI tools are command-line utilities to help bundle an Amazon Machine Image (AMI), create an AMI from an existing machine or installed volume, and upload a bundled AMI to Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service). AMI Tools can be downloaded from: http://developer.amazonwebservices.com/ connect/entry.jspa?externalID=368&categoryID=88. The Amazon EC2 API command line tools serve as the client interface to the Amazon EC2 Web service. These tools are employed to register and launch instances, manipulate security groups, and more. The tools are the primary interface to Amazon EC2 services. This section describes how to setup the necessary tools/utility with the appropriate version, including environment variables that are needed for establishing a connection to Amazon EC2 services. In order to access the Amazon EC2 environment, it is required to have an SSH client and appropriate Java™ Runtime Environment (JRE) software. • Getting Started with Freeway Shop in a Box
  • Of the many innovations the Internet has brought us, one of the most visible is online shopping. The advantages for merchants are clear lower overheads in both staff and shop space, provision of greater convenience for their customers, 24/7 and international availability of the store, and the ability to compete on a far more level playing field with larger companies. The spread of internet shopping sites is a testament to all of these. However, the implementation of an online store has often been difficult, especially for the individual user. A catalogue needs to be presented allowing customers to select products to buy, these product choices must be tracked (usually in the form of the common shopping cart), and all-importantly, a secure way of processing the customer’s payment details is vital. As is often the case, a demand for services rapidly begets solutions, and there are now numerous companies that offer these services for integration into a website. PayPal, Verisign, and Authorize.Net are well- known companies who provide secure credit card processing services. Many companies who provide shopping carts link with these (and other) credit card processors. One of the better of the shopping carts is Mal’s e-commerce (http://www.mals-e.com) which provides two packages: a free service offering integration with PayPal, NoChex and Paymate, and a premium service offering integration with VeriSign, Authorize.Net and a wide variety of other credit card processors. And now, using the power of Freeway’s Actions technology, you can take advantage of Mal’s shopping cart to quickly create your own online store.

  • 3-D model-based tracking of humans in action: a multi-view approach
  • We present a vision system for the 3-D model- based tracking of unconstrained human movement. Using image sequences acquired simultaneously from multiple views, we recover the 3-D body pose at each time instant without the use of markers. The pose- recovery problem is formulated as a search problem and entails finding the pose parameters of a graphical human model whose synthesized appearance is most similar to the actual appearance of the real human in the multi-view images. The models used for this purpose are acquired from the images. We use a decomposition approach and a best-first technique to search through the high dimensional pose parameter space. A robust variant of chamfer matching is used as a fast similarity measure between synthesized and real edge images. We present initial tracking results from a large new Humans-In-Action (HIA) database containing more than 2500 frames in each of four orthogonal views. They contain subjects involved in a variety of activities, of various degrees of complexity, ranging from the more simple one-person hand waving to the challenging two-person close interaction in the Argentine Tango. The ability to recognize humans and their activities by vision is a key feature in the pursuit to design a machine capable of interacting intelligently and effortlessly with a human-inhabited environment. Besides this long-term goal, there are many applications possible in the more near term, e.g. in virtual reality, smart" surveillance systems, motion analysis in sports, choreography of dance and ballet, sign language translation and gesture-driven user interfaces. In many of these
