  • Threat Profiling Microsoft SQL Server
  • An attacker's location in the application space and/or the network will largely define how they would approach breaking into a SQL Server 2000 machine from a remote location. If their attacks go through SQL Injection via a web server then their 'cursus incursi' will be considerably different from those when direct access can be gained to the SQL Server. Consequently, this paper will be split into four main sections. The first section will cover attacks that do not require the attacker to have a user ID and password for the SQL Server, that is, the attacks are unauthenticated. The second section will cover those attacks that do require authentication; to succeed the user must be logged onto the SQL Server. The third section will consider those attacks that can be launched from a compromised server. Before any job is undertaken, be it grouting the shower or paving a patio, a lot of unnecessary grief can be avoided by getting the right tools before hand and attacking a computer system is no different. As far as compromising a Microsoft SQL Server is concerned the 'tools of the trade' are a combination of the SQL Server client tools, such as Query Analyzer, SQLPing and a C compiler. One of the most important tools is a copy of MS SQL Server itself. It's far better to examine vulnerability and code an exploit for it on a system in the lab, rather than experimenting on the live target system. Whilst SQL Server is generally good
  • Queen’s Wifi Pilot User Guide Manual
  • Introduction An encrypted wireless network service has been implemented to offer users with their own laptops access to the University’s computer network. The service uses your QUB username and password for authentication. In order to protect your details, and the University network, the service will require you to install wireless client software on your machine. Queen’s has purchased a set number of licences so we need to record your email and staff/student number. You can still use your laptop on other networks, but you will need to disable the client software first. Once connected, you can browse the World Wide Web, and hence access your on- campus file store, and send and receive email. Use of the service is governed by the policies as set out at: http://www.qub.ac.uk/is/StaffComputing/ITServices/SecurityandAnti-Virus/SecurityPolicies/ This is a pilot service so users may suffer some teething problems. There may be short interruptions when new configurations are installed and when temporary equipment is being upgraded. See the webpage http://www.qub.ac.uk/is/StaffComputing/MobileComputing WirelessatQueens for information regarding any developments which may affect users. This wireless facility is in addition to the previous wireless service (through a remote server) and the laptop lending service. These are both still available in the Main and Science Libraries. One simplification is to model it as a small Local Area Network. Previ- ous work has shown that a gossip-based multicast can be an effective tool for modeling the flow of information on a local area network. We examine the ef- fect of different networks within this mathematical framework. We propose a general mathematical model that incorporates the susceptibility and infectivity of a given machine in a local area network. We also use the concept of pro- portionate mixing to model the spread of information among heterogeneous patches, where each patch coists of use and non-use of an information router. A very interesting idea to model the flow of information is to Get PDF
  • SAP Guide The Payroll Process Manual
  • The payroll program is run at a specific point in time, not only to calculate an employee’s basic remuneration but also any special payments, overtime payments or bonuses that must be effected for the period in question. Prerequisites before you start this process, you have to specify for which payroll area(s) payroll should be run. You have the following options: · From the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Human Resources ® Payroll ® ® Settings ® Set Payroll Area. · When Releasing the Payroll Run [Page 16] specify for which payroll area the payroll should be run. If you want to execute a payroll run for several payroll areas at the same time, you must release each payroll area individually- release individually [Page 17]. If you do not want to perform payroll for an employee, you must use the Lock Personnel Number [Page 10] function. Before you start the payroll run for all employees, you can run a Payroll Simulation [Page 11] for individual employees. Process Flow The status of the Payroll Control Record [Page 8] is automatically updated with every step that is carried out during payroll. 1. • T-Splines Maya Plugin Version 1.6
  • After installing the T-Splines plugin, you need to tell Maya to use it. • On the menu, select Window -> Settings/Preferences -> Plug-in Manager. • Look for "TSplineShape" (it will be followed by .mll, .so, or .lib; this depends on your operating system). You may need to scroll down to find it. • Put a check in both the "loaded" and "auto load" boxes. This will load the plug-in and make sure it reloads every time you start Maya. After you load the plug-in, a "TSplines" menu should appear on the menu bar. Most of what you can do with the plug-in is accessed through this menu. The menu contains links to the T-Spline help pages, the forum, and to many of the operations that you can perform on T-Splines. Creating a Shelf To create a shelf with commonly used functions, choose "Create Shelf" from the T-Splines menu. If it's your first time creating the shelf, a new "TSplines" shelf will be added and will be filled with icons. If the shelf already exists, it will re-add any icons that may be missing. Even if you add your own icons to the shelf, you can safely "Create Shelf" again; it will not modify your existing icons. It's a good idea to use "Create Shelf" after upgrading to a new version of the plug-in, as we will probably add new icons on occasion. Download pdf T-Splines Maya Plugin Version 1.6
  • Norton AntiVirus 9.0 for Macintosh User's Guide
  • A computer virus is a parasitic program written intentionally to alter the way your computer operates without your permission or knowledge. A virus attaches copies of itself to other files and, when activated, may damage files, cause erratic system behavior, or display messages. Computer viruses infect System files, or files stored in the System folder that the Macintosh computer uses to start up and documents created by programs with macro capabilities. Mac OS System files include kernel extensions (programs that load into memory when a Macintosh computer is started), and programs like those in Microsoft Office. Some computer viruses are programmed specifically to corrupt programs, delete files, or erase your disk. Macro viruses spread quickly Macros are simple programs that are used to do things such as automate repetitive tasks in a document or make calculations in a spreadsheet. Macros are written in files created by such programs as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Macro viruses are malicious macro programs that are designed to replicate themselves from file to file and can often destroy or change data. Macro viruses can be transferred across platforms and spread whenever you open an infected file. Trojan horses hide their true purposes Trojan horses are programs that appear to serve some useful purpose or provide entertainment, which encourages you to run them. But the program also serves a covert purpose, which may be to damage files or place a virus on your computer. A Trojan horse is not a virus because it does not replicate and spread like a virus.

  • Buffer Overflow Exploits: The Why and How
  • McAfee System Protection Solutions Table of Contents Unchecked buffers Exploiting the overflow Now, for the clever part Other types of buffer overflow exploits Preventing buffer overflow exploits Summary Buffer overflow exploits are the tool of choice of today’s attacker. These exploits have the most power, are the easiest to use, and are all too common. Buffer overflows constitute the largest single threat to enterprises today. • Buffer overflow exploits are very common. There are hundreds of known unchecked buffers that can be overflowed by hackers with more being discovered all the time. Over 60% of CERT advisories deal with buffer overflow exploits. • Buffer overflow exploits are easy to use. Nearly anyone (12 year olds and script kiddies included) can download buffer overflow attack code and follow a simple “recipe” to execute it. No advanced technical knowledge is necessary to run pre-written buffer overflow exploit code. • Buffer overflow exploits are very powerful. In many cases, the malicious code that executes as a result of a buffer overflow will run with administrator-level privileges, and therefore can do anything it wants to the server.
