  • Pro Web 2.0 Application Development with GWT Excerpt
  • When I quit my day job in the summer of 2006 to bring an idea of mine to life as an Internet startup, I was faced with a huge number of questions and not a lot of clear answers. The excitement of starting a new project was soon tempered by the difficulty of choosing among the dizzying array of possible technical platforms and solutions. While the shelves were full of books focusing on each of the components of a web application, what I really wanted was a look at how all the pieces fit together. Too often, I found books that seemed like annotated versions of Javadocs, with helpful explanatory notes that setEnabled(boolean enabled) would set the enabled flag. At the other end of the spectrum were abstract architectural tracts that might have made for good reading but certainly didn’t give me a head start on the architecture. I wanted to see how these technologies worked when used for nontrivial applications; I wanted to see ugly problems and their solutions—I wanted a look at the source code of a modern web application. For those of us who learned HTML and JavaScript by using the View Source option, there’s nothing like getting your hands on working source code. So I had an idea: what if I created a company, a real, functional company, with a modern web site and then gave you the keys to the castle to go poke around? That’s the goal of this book, to give you the tour of
  • PowerBook G4 (12-inch) Service Source pdf
  • PowerBook G4 (12-inch DVI) Overview Some of the key features that distinguish these computers from earlier notebook models include: ” 12-inch active-matrix display in aluminum alloy enclosure ” built-in Bluetooth ” slot load optical drive ” optional AirPort Extreme Card and Base Station The external housing of the PowerBook G4 (12-inch DVI) model looks the same as the PowerBook G4 (12-inch) model except for one port. To distinguish the models, look for a mini-DVI port (shown below) on the PowerBook G4 (12-inch DVI) computer. PowerBook G4 (12-inch DVI) The mini-DVI port is used with an adapter cable to connect the computer to a monitor, television, VCR, or other video device. The adapter cables that can be used with this port include a mini-DVI-to-DVI adapter, a mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter, and a mini-DVI-to-S-Video adapter. By contrast, the PowerBook G4 (12-inch) computer has a video-out VGA port instead of a mini-DVI port. PowerBook G4 (12-inch) Specific model differences that are noted in the Take Apart procedures include ” Reed Switch Board and Cable For the PowerBook G4 (12-inch DVI) model, this part is called the “Hall Effect Sensor Board and Cable,” but the procedure is the same. ” DC-to-DC Board The component layout on the board differs, but the procedure is the same. ” Heatsink The heatsink shape and thermal pad placement differs. ” Inner Frame The main frame shape differs, but the procedure is similar. ” RJ11 Modem Board The procedure is the same, but the placement of the tape that secures the cable
  • Sculpted Prims with Maya – Modeling, Texturing, Exporting
  • This short tutorial implies that you know the basics of Maya. Please refer to the many available Maya Tutorials on the net on how to work with materials (textures) and how to apply them to objects. Just one quick tip: Many drag-and-drop operations in Maya are done with the middle mouse button. You can apply textures/materials to objects this way as well as moving materials from the upper window in the Hypershade Editor to the lower window in order to edit the material (right mouse button -> Graph). With the method described below you can use all methods that Maya offers to texture and light your object and then export the resulting texture to SL. The result is a straight bitmap; I haven’t yet worked with transparencies (alpha), but that should be perfectly possible, too. The process of converting all the Maya materials and lights into one single texture is called baking. Its big advantage is that all UV mapping coordinates are generated automatically and you can precisely texture even very complex sculpty prims. Depending on the texturing method you use in Maya, the texturing in Maya is more or less work. I used 3D materials in this tutorial – they “wrap” themselves around a 3D object automatically and don’t need any manual editing of texture coordinates. • Web2.0:The Tipping Point for XML
  • By now, you’ve seen the articles about XML, separation of content and presentation, programmatic enforcement of content organization, structured authoring, and all the rest. You’ve considered XML publishing, but implementation looks difficult and expensive, and your current workflow is in reasonable shape. So you’ve been waiting for a compelling reason to make the transition. That compelling reason has arrived in the form of online user-generated content, otherwise known as Web 2.0. User-generated content isn’t new—if we include scribbling notes in the margin of a book. But today, instead of creating annotations for personal use only, we can share information on the Internet with friends, family, or the world using blogs, wikis, forums, and other Web 2.0 applications. User-generated content is going to be hugely disruptive for technical communication. Your content strategy needs to include Web 2.0, and XML provides a platform to sup- port the seamless integration of “professional” content with “user” content. Why XML with Web 2.0? Most of our clients have cited utilitarian reasons for implementing XML—they expect cost savings in localization or from automated document production. Increased efficiency and reduced costs tend to make for compelling return on investment (ROI) justifications. Lately, though, we’re seeing a new trend—clients want XML because of the possibilities that structured content opens up. In particular, the integration of corporate content—information created by technical communicators—and user-generated content is becoming a priority. In an XML-based work-flow, content is stored without formatting. When information is published, formatting instructions are added on to the content to produce the final
