But creating the proper movement, and getting the right look, is deceptively difficult. Mechanical tentacles such as the sentinels from the Matrix series, or like Doc Ock’s in Spider-Man 2, are particularly challenging.
This tutorial walks you through setting up a character with tentacles, and should give you a good idea of the general approach to take. Part of working in CG is the ability to push the limits of reality – mechanised parts can be exaggerated to stretch and reach further than possible, or be squashed like a slinky – if set up properly, they can do anything you like. Michael Ingrassia, from Escape Studios in London, has provided us with a cartoony character with tentacles to rig and animate. I’m assuming you’re already familiar enough with Maya that you can rig a complete character without a problem, so we’ll be focusing on the tentacles and claws – how they attach to the body, and how all the parts work together to help bring the character to life. The character rig is very basic, so if you’re trying to do anything fancy, you’ll probably need to add more to it.
We’ll walk through a spline IK-type setup in Maya. Maya has a very intuitive and powerful IK solver and its spline abilities function well when set up properly. There are no FK controls for the tentacles, although I would usually provide that to theJobs Gives Apple Employees Free 8GB iPhonesJobs Gives Apple Employees Free 8GB iPhones. The software, which is now in its third generation, includes a large collection of tools and utilities, including an interactive geometry editor, raytracing and generic framebuffer libraries, network-distributed image-processing/signal-processing capabilities, and an embedded scripting language. In support of the package, a multivolume tutorial series is being written to assist users with the many features and functionality of BRL-CAD.
Three volumes have been published thus far. Volume I provides an overview of the package contents and installation (Butler and Edwards, 2002). Before the days of Google and Web 2.0 there was little attention paid to Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO refers to “optimizing” web sites to rank very high in the results of search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. SEO helps structure your website content so it is easily found and indexed by search engines. In the early days of the Internet Era you could get your site listed on Yahoo or Altavista by merely submitting it. As long as it wasn't too complicated for search engines to understand your site, you could get it listed within 2 to 3 days. But Yahoo and Altavista couldn't keep up with the flood of URL submissions. As web evolved, companies began to embrace the online medium and the potential for using it as a marketing tool.
In the late 1990's something dramatic happened. Google introduced PageRank, a system of ranking Web pages based on their importance and other factors. Google search spiders crawl through the web following links, indexing and categorizing pages based on their content and relevancy. When the search spiders crawls and finds backlinks to your site along the way, each backlink translates to a positive confidence of vote to your site. It indicates popularity or importance of your website to the search engine which ultimately helps place you in the top of the search results. But this is one of the many factors that Google orBuild Your Own Database Driven Website Using PHP and MySQL, 3rd Edition (First 4 Chapters)Over the course of this book, it will be my job to guide you as you take your first steps beyond the HTML world of client-side site design. Together, we’ll explore what it takes to develop the kind of large, content-driven sites that are so successful today, but which can be a real headache to maintain if they aren’t built right. Before we get started, you need to gather together the tools you’ll need for the job. In this first chapter, I’ll guide you as you download and set up the two software packages you’ll need: PHP and MySQL.
PHP is a server-side scripting language. You can think of it as a “plug-in” for your Web server that will allow it to do more than just send plain Web pages when browsers request them. With PHP installed, your Web server will be able to read a new kind of file (called a PHP script) that can do things like retrieve up-to-the-minute information from a database and insert it into a Web page before sending it to the browser that requested it. PHP is completely free to download and use.
To retrieve information from a database, you first need to have a database. That’s where MySQL comes in. MySQL is a relational database management system, or RDBMS. We’ll get into the exact role it plays and how it works later, but basically it’s a software package that is very good at the organization and management of large amounts of information. MySQL also makesJava Programming Guide - Quick Reference PDFSteps to run the above application: 1. Type the program in the DOS editor or notepad. Save the file with a .java extension. 2.
