  • Editing SGML Documents With Emacs Text Editor Tutorial Manual
  • Emacs (pronounced ee-max) started off in 1976 as a series of editor macros (hence its name) written by Richard Matthew Stallman for the TECO text editor on the DEC PDP-10 minicomputer. Since becoming its own program separate from TECO, it has become extremely popular and widely used for two main reasons: first, free versions of Emacs are available for nearly every computer in existence; second, it’s completely customizable. Many text editors and word processors claim to be completely customizable. Some let you reassign each key’s purpose, and they let you assign a series of operations to be performed by one or two keystrokes or menu choices. Perhaps this series of operations can have loops of repeated statements and if statements that execute one or another group of instructions based on whether a particular condition is true. If so, the editor’s proponents claim that its macro facility features a full-fledged programming language. This is usually an exaggeration, but not with Emacs. • Creating Maya 4.x Blend Shapes for MOTIONBUILDER Tutorial
  • Maya Blend Shapes Guidelines • Do not use identical names. Since the FBX plugin is not case sensitive, conflicts may occur when merging back using the same letters for a given name (for example: big, Big, BIG are all the same). Use different names. ! Note: When renaming, use the “prefix hierarchy names” (>modify) command in Maya to rename a complete hierarchy. • Do not delete the target models from your scene until the file has been exported in FBX format. The FBX plugin needs these models to export the Blend Shapes. • Use the default options (“Origin:Local”, and “Check topology:On”), except for the deformation order option. In the Advanced tab, use the “Front of chain” and not the “Default” option. • Use only one Blend Shape input per object. Do not use the “Create Blend Shapes” command more than once on the same object. • Generate the Blend Shapes on each geometry separately. Do not use the entire group (like the head group), but instead use each part of the head separately. Good examples: - Face_base with happy_face_target and sad_face_target - Teeth_base with happy_teeth_target and sad_teeth_target Bad examples: - head_group with head_group_happy and head_group_sad Using the group method will transfer into MOTIONBUILDER, but will generate duplicate Blend Shapes in MOTIONBUILDER. • Introduction to LightWave 3D 8.3s NEW Bone Tools and Ikbooster PDF
  • You have already rigged character and eyeballs with Modeler’s skelegons. But as you know using skelegons can be kind of cumbersome having to setup in modeler and convert in Layout then edit changes in Modeler if a bone was misplaced. LightWave 3D [8] introduced some full-fledged features to create and edit bones right in Layout, giving you full flexibility when it comes to rigging. Also introduced in LightWave [8] is IK (Inverse Kinematics) Booster which applies IK Handles on all created bones automatically. You can also apply dynamics to bones using this tool. N.B. Inverse Kinematics The process of determining the motion of joints in a hierarchical 3D object given the desired start and end points, all the while obeying the laws of kinematics. Think of it like the strings on a marionette puppet or where the handles or the child bones themselves control the parent bones. Forward Kinematics Figure positioning by joint angle specification. Like posing a toy action figure or where the parent bone controls the child bone. LightWave Layout has two main bone tool categories • Bone tools found in the Setup Tab • IK booster Download Introduction to LightWave 3D 8.3s NEW Bone Tools and Ikbooster PDF

  • Semantic Web meets Web 2.0: The Value of the Mundane for the Semantic Web
  • Web 2.0, not the Semantic Web, has become the face of “the next generation Web” among the tech-literate set, and even among many in the various research communities involved in the Web. Perceptions in these communities of what the Semantic Web is (and who is involved in it) are often misinformed if not misguided. In this paper we identify opportunities for Semantic Web activities to connect with the Web 2.0 community; we explore why this connection is of significant benefit to both groups, and identify how these connections open valuable research opportunities “in the real” for the Semantic Web effort. In a recent blog entry on the tech-savvy O’Reilly site, the author queries “Is Web 2.0 killing the Semantic Web?” By way of background, Web 2.0 is elsewhere on O’Reilly described as a service delivered through the Web in a Web way, delivering a “rich user experience” [ref]. Exemplars offered are BitTorrent, Google and Blogs. The blog writer who asks about Web 2.0 killing the Semantic Web sets his argument as Web 2.0’s instant superficial gratification of people vs the Semantic Web’s deep, meaningful and lasting relationship with data. Web 2.0, he says, is indifferent to technology and just wants to “’give power to the people’, quickly and efficiently” for superficial things like sharing files, opinions and photos. The author then goes on to state that the Semantic Web “is the polar opposite” being all about data and machine readability of that data and “sav[ing] lives.” It is because of Web 2.0’s
