Abstract We describe algorithms for real-time synthesis of realistic sound effects for interactive simulatio (e.g., games) and animation. These sound effects are produced automatically, from 3D models using dynamic simulation and user interac- tion. We develop algorithms that are efficient, physically- based, and can be controlled Download
  • Intrusive Data Structures
  • This article compares two styles of building data structures and data structure libraries in C++: (a) Intrusive data structures formed by pointers stored inside the application objects, (b) Containers where auxiliary objects form the required data structure, and only point to the application objects without adding any pointers or other data to them. Each style works better in different situations, and the first half of the article discusses the impact of this choice on program performance, code maintainability, ease of use and data integrity. When working with templates, containers are easier to implement, which may be the reason why most class libraries are based on containers. The only existing library which is consistently intrusive (Code Farms) uses a code generator. If intrusive data structures could not be implemented with templates, their applicability would be severely limited. The second half of the article deals with this pivotal question, shows an elegant way of building an intrusive data structure library with templates, explains why its interface is similar to- but cannot be identical with STL, discusses the impact of the new architecture on class dependency, and compares the new approach with existing libraries. A prototype of the new library is now available under the name Pattern Template Library. Open any book on data structures, and somewhere near the beginning you will find a linked list similar to Fig.1a. This is the type of list you would probably use in your program if you were not using any class library. Download pdf Intrusive Data Structures

  • Need For Speed ProStreet pdf review
  • Electronic Arts made the big announcement just months ago and Need For Speed ProStreet is already shaping up into one of the best, if not THE best racing game ever developed. We’ve watched the game’s evolution right from the first released developer’s diary and ever since then, EA had promised to deliver la crème de la crème as far as the racing genre goes. Trying out the demo the giant publisher and developer has made available for the Xbox 360, we were able to fully understand what they meant by competing “at the highest level of street racing”. Indeed, the latest installment in the NFS series lives up to its name and what we’ve seen so far, confirms it. This time around, the company responsible for the most popular racing game franchise on the market decided to add a touch of simulation to NFS ProStreet. We’re talking about what EA has revealed about the full product, just so everyone can make a better picture of why some things now are more difficult to do than in other NFS installments. Players will not only have to customize their cars for looks, but also for great performance on track. For example, using the wind-tunnel, gamers will be able to check out drag and downforce efficiency, while the slightest modification done well to the car’s body will have a direct impact on its aerodynamics, which will eventually shave off seconds during a race. But let’s get back to what we’ve been able to experience

  • Water Resource Planning Application Tutorial
  • All SimBLOX simulation products employ an agent-based or object-oriented architecture. This allows the user to create very large, complex, macro-level simulation models by connecting together many smaller, easily understandable, micro-level “building block” models. In this simple tutorial, we will show you how to use the Water Resource Planning SimBRIX. INSTALLING THE WATER RESOURCE PLANNING SimBRIX: Before you install the Water Resource SimBRIX, you must make sure you have already installed the SimBLOX application. If you have not done so, refer to the documentation included with the SimBLOX application for instructions on how to properly install it, or if you do not have the SimBLOX software, please contact us. Our contact information is available at the end of this tutorial. After you have verified that SimBLOX is installed SimBLOX, double-click the file called “setup.exe” to begin the installation of the Water Resource SimBRIX. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. Once the installation is completed you will then need to open SimBLOX to access the Water Resource Planning SimBRIX. The current version only works on IBM-compatible PC’s running Windows 2000, XP or Vista with the .NET 2.0 Framework installed. The .NET 2.0 Framework is available as a free download from Microsoft. Please visit the resources page on the viaSim website (www.viasimcorp.com) for a link to download this software directly from the Microsoft website. • Web 2.0 Access Control Best Practices – Part 1
  • So - you are wrapping up development of yet another Web app. The database is in place, CRUD functions are working, user interface and reports have been signed off. Now your thoughts are turning to access control. Just enough time to splice in that trusty user authentication and roles module, make a few tweaks and move on to the next project. Wait! Do you really want to contribute yet another authorization stovepipe to the growing forest? We all curse the proliferation of authentication and authorization “solutions” on the Web. Yet we continue to treat access control as an after thought. Developers accept the benefits of adopting third-party solutions for common functions such as data storage, cryptography, numerical analysis, parsing, etc., yet continue to roll their own application access control solutions. Why? The disadvantages of RYO are obvious: application-specific user accounts and passwords proliferate, each application reinvents how roles should be implemented -- perhaps even a language for specifying access constraints -- and, if integration with an external authentication framework is required, each application must implement interfaces to the drivers. This is irritating to our users, a headache for those who administer the applications, and costly to maintain. In this article we develop a set of Web 2.0 best practices for “outsourcing” the access control problem. Following these practices produces applications that readily integrate into an organization’s existing access control infrastructure, and simplifies application development and maintenance. Examples are based on DACS (http://dacs.dss.ca) – the Distributed Access Control System. DACS is a mature, lightweight
