The ASPIRA Association web site provides its users the capability to create “virtual communities” which allows interaction among like-minded individuals. The building block for establishing this interactivity are called “groups”.

What are groups and what function they have?
Groups are a collection of users who can share access to protected resources and tools. A group enables users with permissions (ASPIRA Staff members) to create and manage their own groups. ASPIRA Official groups are created by the webmaster, which has special permissions including the ability to delete the group the owner created.

Last month I was fortunate enough to be invited to a private roundtable of operator executives and entrepreneurs asked to share their ideas and opinions on the opportunities and challenges facing the mobile data industry. Now it’s a very rare day when these two constituencies can agree on anything, so imagine my surprise when both camps reached a consensus on the positive impacts that Web 2.0 services will have on non-voice revenues.

As you may have read on the project’s web site, the goal of MySQL­HA is oprovide a freely available and community supported clustering tool kit based on MySQL, and focused on service availability. We’ll dissect that sentence to reveal that it’s not just a quick marketing trick, but a real mission statement. Freely available. This is easy to see, since the code is GPL, plus, it’s mostly shell and perl scripts, which is inherently open source. Community supported. This is very important now that the project is sponsored by an IT company. What it means is that it’s not that useful to have a freely available clustering solution if it’s not properly documented and easy to use. We’re working on the easy to use part, by focusing our current development efforts on a better installer. As for the other part, this document is the first on a set of tools we’re developing, along with the code, in order to allow people to make the best of the code with no need for commercial support.
