  • Creating a Poster in Microsoft PowerPoint
  • This handout will guide you through setting up a poster in PowerPoint, inserting text and images, and preparing the poster for printing. Creating your document A poster created in PowerPoint usually consists of a single slide. Launch Microsoft PowerPoint. PowerPoint will automatically open a blank presentation. To resize the slide, select Page Setup from the File menu. In the dialog box that pops up, select Custom under Slides sized for: Then enter the width and height of your poster, in inches. PowerPoint will automatically set portrait or landscape orientation based on the measurements you enter. The maximum size PowerPoint will allow for a slide is 56”. If you want your poster to be bigger than 56”, create it at half size and then print it at 200% scale. In this example, the desired poster size is 96” wide by 36” high, so it is designed at 48” by 18”. Inserting poster elements Insert text and graphics as you normally would in PowerPoint. Remember that if you are designing your poster at half the printed size, everything on your poster will also be half the printed size. So, if you want your title to be 1.5” high (108 pt), and you are designing your poster at half size, set the font to 54 pt. Inserting a PowerPoint slide You can insert a PowerPoint slide into your poster by saving it as an image. 1. In PowerPoint, select the slide you would like to place. 2. Select Save as from the File menu. Download pdf Creating a Poster in Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Introduction to Publisher 2007
  • Microsoft Publisher 2007 is a really neat program that allows you to create professional quality newsletters, brochures, flyers, postcards, calendars, award certificates, calling cards, paper airplanes, origami – and a whole lot more great “things.” This tutorial will proceed from what we think is the easiest publication to the most complex. First we’ll create a flyer using Microsoft Publisher 2007. Then, we’ll create a brochure, and finally a newsletter. Each skill we learn in the flyer will be of use in the brochure. The flyer and brochure techniques will also be used in the newsletter. Your abilities will grow from publication to publication. You may save your publications on a formatted 3 ½ inch diskette, a USB key, or on your hard drive. To load the Microsoft Publisher 2007 program, Double click on the Publisher 2007 icon on the main Windows screen, or click-on Start in the lower left corner of the screen, then click-on Programs, and then click on Microsoft Publisher 2007. • Creating academic database-backed web sites with HTML, PHP and MySQL
  • In the early days of the World Wide Web, information was stored in simple files with only HTML markup. Today, the web server often processes scripts within web files that e.g. call other files, stylesheets, etc. Furthermore, the scripts may also acquire information from a relational database management system. Such a modern system gets data from database tables and includes them in the web page that is delivered to the user. To make database-backed system of web pages like Evolutionary Economics et al., we need a system of tools. Thus we leave the user's viewpoint that there is just a web server that is capable of sending web pages. Instead we have to think in terms of a system consisting of a web server system (like Apache) as an entity that from the web files can interpret a programming language (like PHP or Perl) and thus can access a database management system (like MySQL). Such a system may look rather complicated - like it is sketched in the following figure: Download pdf for Creating academic database-backed web sites with HTML, PHP and MySQL
