  • GeoUV: Maya Plugin for Windows User Guide
  • GeoUV is a tool that automatically produces a map from a 3D surface to a 2D plane. Traditionally this process was done by hand. Each polygon of the 3D mesh was chosen and placed, one by one, onto the UV plane. When meshes consisted of only tens of faces, this process was feasible but time consuming. However, meshes with thousands of faces are commonplace; the traditional methods are inadequate. GeoUV automates this mapping process, including meshes with complex geometries with only a little guidance from the user. GeoUV’s methods are founded in new mathematical research that keeps the angles on the 3D surface and the 2D plane consistent with each other. Download pdf GeoUV: Maya Plugin for Windows User Guide
  • Implementing Mobile Web 2.0
  • This document outlines a chapter in the book Implementing Mobile Web 2.0 by Ajit Jaokar published by futuretext (Feb 2009). It is released separately as a stand-alone chapter. Here, we discuss the role of the next generation SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card, referred to as SCWS (Smart card web server) SIM within Mobile Web 2.0. To explain the background, this document includes other sections from the book so that it becomes as complete document in itself. Synopsis and key ideas The key ideas behind this chapter are: • Web 2.0 has already evolved to Cloud computing. • Inspite of the notion of a ‘Web only’ processing, the cloud needs a client (as is now apparent from the deployment of a browser like Chrome from Google). • For a mobile ecosystem, there are two possibilities for a Cloud client; The device or The SIM since both are at the edge of the network(for simplicity we discuss a cellular network only i.e. not Wimax, WiFi etc) • From a network Operator perspective, the SCWS SIM offers a possibility to be the client for the mobile cloud for reasons that we discuss in this chapter. • The SCWS SIM technology also offers the possibility of accessing mass market devices. Notes: 1) This chapter is written from a Telecom Operator perspective. There are other implementations of Mobile Web 2.0 which are non Operator specific 2) We use the term SCWS technology to refer to Smart Card Web Server technology and SCWS SIM as the next generation SIM card incorporating SCWS technology Web 2.0 and Mobile
  • The Coming Web 2.0 Train Wreck
  • Many IT organizations view the phrase Web 2.0 as either just marketing hype that is devoid of any meaning or they associate it exclusively with social networking sites such as MySpace. That’s understandable as Web 2.0 is not the same as a new protocol that has an associated RFC that spells out definitively what is and what is not included as part of the protocol. As a result, many concepts get lumped under the banner of Web 2.0. In one of the most insightful analyses of Web 2.0, Tim Reilly points out that Web 2.0 involves fundamentally new design patterns and business models and he compares companies that were successful with Web 1.0 with those companies that are leading the movement to Web 2.0. One of these comparisons is Netscape vs. Google. Reilly states that Netscape intended to use their dominance in the browser market to establish a market for high-priced server products and that Netscape’s ability to do this would stem from their assumed control over standards for displaying content and applications in the browser world. From a design perspective, Reilly states that Web 2.0 companies such as Google focus more on cooperation than on control and that their success requires a key competency that Napster never needed – database management. Reilly emphasized the importance of databases when he states that “Data is the Next Intel Inside” and he added that while competitors often acquire a base data set from the same source, the successful Web 2.0 companies are the
