How Web 2.0 technologies move Talent ManagementFor many of today’s companies, a greater volume of work is expected from a limited number of employees. This environment makes it essential for companies to have a strategy in place to nurture and track employee talent. A lack of effective talent management can critically impact business operations and employee productivity. For example, companies without adequate sales and support training programs take longer to bring new products to market; customer retention issues arise from poorly trained support representatives; and employee productivity remains low when workforce talent is not aligned with business processes and goals.
Since the 1990s, the process of talent management has been utilized by companies to develop workers’ skills, improve overall performance, and ultimately enhance the corporate bottom line. Today, forward-looking companies have begun to develop talent that is aligned with their business by tapping into online communities—known collectively as Web 2.0 technologies—such as blogs, wikis, and social networks. This paper discusses the morphing of traditional talent management into a more sophisticated, collaborative method of cultivating employee skills using Web 2.0 technologies.
Transforming traditional Talent Management
Talent management—the acquisition and development of employee talent—has become somewhat of a buzzword due to factors such as globalization and outsourcing to foreign markets. One key aspect of talent management is performance management: how companies develop and rate individual employee performance. Yet talent management equates to far more than performance management. It is an overarching umbrella that encompasses the means by which companies attract, develop, promote, and retain their employees. The components of talent managementGradekeeper User's GuideGradekeeper is a powerful tool for managing your gradebook. With Gradekeeper you can:

This architecture separates content negotiation from the data transfer itself. Applications determine what data they need to send and then use a new transfer service to send it. This transfer service acts as a common interface between applications and the lower-level network layers, facilitating innovation both above and below. The transfer service frees developers from re-inventing transfer mechanisms in each new application. New transfer mechanisms, in turn, can be easily deployed without modifying existing applications.
We discuss the benefits that arise from separating data transfer into a service and the challenges this service must overcome. The paper then examines the implementation of DOT and its plugin framework for creating new data transfer mechanisms. A set of microbenchmarks shows that the DOT prototype performs well, and that the overhead it imposes is unnoticeable in the wide-area. End-to-end experiments using more complex configurations demonstrate DOT’s ability to implement effective, new data delivery mechanisms underneath existing services. Finally, we evaluate a production mail server modified to use DOT using trace data gathered from a live email server. Converting the mail server required only 184 lines-of-code changes to the server, and the resulting system reduces the bandwidth needed to send email by up to 20%.
Download pdf An Architecture for Internet Data TransferIFAXVIEW (TIFF Viewer) Users ManualIFAXVIEW is a TIFF Viewer that allows you to view Internet FAX received on the PC as a Tagged Image File Format (”TIFF”) attachment to an email. The Internet FAX is a facsimile equipment connected to an Ethernet LAN (Local Area Network) that allows you to send documents over the Internet to a remote Internet FAX or a PC terminal. It also allows you to receive and print an email transmitted by a remote PC. The Internet FAX uses the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (”SMTP”) for communication, which is the same internet protocol used for Electronic Mail (”email”).
The document is first scanned by the Internet FAX and converted into a TIFF-F formatted image file, and then transmitted to the remote location as an attachment file to an email using Multi-purpose Internet Mail Extensions (”MIME”) encoding. The email system at the receiving end must support MIME. Otherwise, the attachment file will be detached and lost. When you send an email message to someone, the Internet FAX uses SMTP to transfer your outgoing mail to your SMTP mail server, which in turn uses SMTP to send your mail to the Internet. The IFAXVIEW software displays the image data on the PC by expanding the received TIFF formatted document data file. 2. What IFAXVIEW does IFAXVIEW has the following features. ? Application software running on Windows 95/98/NT and Windows 3.1. ? Retrieves and Displays the image data that was received from an Internet FAX. Complete the activities in order to answer the central question of this lesson: “How does understanding the chemistry of hair care, including the role of pH, help in the development of better hair care products?”
Part I: Determining the pH of shampoo samples
Using the shampoo samples given to you by your teacher, determine the pH of each of the samples. You can determine pH by using a method familiar to you, such as using pH strips or probes. Record the pH of your shampoo samples below:
Shampoo name pHPart II: Treating hair samples in solutions of varying pH Complete the following activity in your lab group and answer the questions that follow.
Procedure:
1. Obtain 4 wooden splints; 4 test dishes; 20 strands of the same type of hair; and 4 strips of tape.
2. Clean the 4 dishes in pH neutral solution and rinse thoroughly with distilled water. (Be sure to clean all glassware after each use so that the samples are not contaminated.)
3. Label the test dishes pH 2.0, pH 6.0, pH 10.0, and pH 12.0. Add 10 mL of the appropriate pH solution to each of the dishes.
4. Tape 5 strands of hair to each splint with one end fastened, and the other end free to be immersed in the test solutions. Label the ends of each splint with pH 2.0, pH 6.0, pH 10.0, and pH 12.0.
5. Put each splint into the corresponding solution. Allow the hair to be exposed for 102006 Nissan Murano Owner GuideThis vehicle is delivered to you with confidence. Download Nissan ManualUsing the Microsoft Visual Basic Macro EMM_MACROThis macro was written in Microsoft Visual Basic for use with Microsoft Excel. It computes cross-sectional geometric properties from biplanar radiographic images using the eccentric ellipse model (EEM) described in detail by Milgrom et al. (1989) and Ohman (1993). The Macro was first implemented in: O’Neill MC, Ruff CB. 2004. Estimating human long bone cross-sectional geometric properties: a comparison of noninvasive methods. J. Hum. Evol. 47:???-???
A. General Instructions
The EMM_Macro is very simple and works in the same manner as a cell function. To begin, enter your data in the columns G through N:
AP
ap
ac
pc
ML
ml
mc
lc
AP = anteriorposterior external breadth
ap = anteriorposterior breadth of medullary cavity. Computed automatically as AP-(ac+pc).
Leave blank (see below for explanation).
ac = anterior cortical thickness
pc = posterior cortical thickness
ML = mediolateral external breadth
ml = mediolateral breadth of the medullary cavity. Computed automatically as ML-(mc+lc).
Leave blank (see below for explanation).
mc = medial cortical thickness
lc = lateral cortical thickness
Once the data is entered the Macro is implemented by going to TOOLS, scrolling down to MACRO, and then clicking on MACROS. Make sure “EccentricEllipseMacro” is highlighted and then click RUN. This will compute the cross-sectional geometric properties using the eccentric ellipse model for 150 sections.

Along with these richer graphics, font, and image APIs, the Java 2D API supports enhanced color definition and composition, hit detection on arbitrary geometric shapes and text, and a uniform rendering model for printers and display devices. The Java 2D API also enables the creation of advanced graphics libraries, such as CAD-CAM libraries and graphics or imaging special effects libraries, as well as the creation of image and graphic file read/write filters.
When used in conjunction with the Java Media Framework and other Java Media APIs, the Java 2D APIs can be used to create and display animations and other multimedia presentations. The Java Animation and Java Media Framework APIs rely on the Java 2D API for rendering support.
Enhanced Graphics, Text, and Imaging
Early versions of the AWT provided a simple rendering package suitable for rendering common HTML pages, but not full-featured enough for complex graphics, text, or imaging. As a simplified rendering package, the early AWT embodied specific cases of more general rendering concepts. The Java 2D™ API provides a more flexible, full-featured rendering package by expanding the AWT to support more general graphics and rendering operations.
For example, through the Graphics class you can draw rectangles, ovals, and polygons. Graphics2D enhances the concept of geometric rendering by providing a mechanism for rendering virtually any geometric shape. Similarly, with the Java 2DCREATING A HIGH-KEY LOOK TO YOUR PHOTO – PHOTOSHOP TUTORIALIn this tutorial, you will learn how to alter a typical color portrait so that it looks like a professional high- key studio shot. Here are the before and after photos:
Open up the photo you want to use. Then desaturate your photo by clicking on Image / Adjustment / Desaturate.
Now we will kick it up a notch by altering the curves. To do this, click on Image / Adjustment / Curves.
You will need to adjust the input and output numbers of your curve. Hover your mouse over the diagonal line and then click once. The input and output number boxes will now be visible. Change the Input number to 171 and the Output number to 240. Then click OK
In order to blur out the background a bit, we will add a Gaussian blur. First, make a duplicate of your photo by right-clicking on it in the Layers Palette
You will now have two layers. The bottom layer is your original and the top layer is your duplicate. Now add a guassian blur to this duplicate (top) layer by clicking on Filter / Blur / Gaussian Blur. Change the radius to 30.0.
In order to have just the background blurred and your subject’s features (eyes, nose, mouth) nice and sharp, we will add a layer mask to the blurred layer and erase some of this layer to expose the sharp image beneath.
