Microsoft: Silverlight More than a FlashMicrosoft gives a name to its Flash-killer technology. The technology formerly known as WPF/E is now known as Silverlight. Microsoft has given a go-to-market name for its cross-platform, cross-browser plug-in for delivering the next generation of user experiences and rich Internet applications for the Web. The technology formerly known as WPF/E is now known as Silverlight.
Microsoft announced Silverlight at the National Association of Broadcasters conference in Las Vegas on April 16. The NAB announcement highlights Silverlight uses for media users. The software company will announce further details about the technology at its own Mix07 conference, which starts at the end of April and runs through May 2 in Las Vegas.
Forest Key, a director of product management in the Microsoft Server and Tools Division, said Silverlight integrates with existing Web technologies and assets to provide higher quality experiences with lower costs for media delivery. In a briefing with eWEEK, Key demonstrated how Silverlight offers consistent experiences to both Mac and Windows users on a variety of browsers, including Internet Explorer, FireFox and Safari.
As for which platform Silverlight will support next, Key said, "Linux is an open question. We're looking at the desktops and browsers by volume. We want to put muscle behind supporting the bulk of the market." And Linux support is still under discussion, he said.
Silverlight uses WMV (Windows Media Video), Microsoft's implementation of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers VC-1 video standard, ensuring compatibility with the millions of hours of content already available on the Web. Download manualE-safety and Web 2.0An important concern is that posting personal information on social websites such as Facebook, MySpace and Bebo is putting children at risk of abuse. Our survey of children at Key Stages 3 and 4 shows that a substantial minority (42%) of children regularly interact socially online with people they have not met face to face. This does not, of itself, indicate that children are naive or engaging in behaviour that puts them at significant risk. Rather, it shows that online interaction forms a different, though overlapping, social space to that of face-to-face friendships, involving friends of friends and people encountered in the online world, for example, through multiplayer games.
Schools can have a role in educating children to use the new internet safely and responsibly. Teachers can help children to appreciate when they cross the line from normal and acceptable Web 2.0 activity, which may include posting some personal details online, to abnormal and risky behaviour. Currently, most children are prevented from engaging in any social activity on the web at school. While this may remove the immediate danger to children and protect the school or local authority against lawsuits, it may also store up further problems for society at large. Now that most children have home access, safe behaviours are essential, but a strongly protected online environment at school may not provide the opportunity to learn these.
Online bullying, or ‘cyberbullying’, can be an upsetting experience and a recent phenomenon is the posting of hurtful images and videos on the web.Web Server Performance HOWTOServers running Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP - generally abbreviated as LAMP - are very popular nowadays. Such servers are increasingly easy to set up and keep running. Additionally the LAMP plattform has proben to be a stable platform available at low costs.
Web servers running a LAMP package can perform very well out of the box. But there are many ways to improve performance both through server configuration and application changes. This document gives you a good starting point for where to start and what to look at. It will also equip you with tools and processes to monitor the server’s performance.
This document is for you, if you are in charge of a web server running Linux and you want to improve the performance without just throwing more hardware at the problem.
When running a server it’s very important to be able to quickly check the current health and compare it with the past. This allows you to detect current anomalies and to see the system development over time. That part is covered in Section 1.1 and Section 1.2. Benchmarking becomes important when tuning your system. You really want to be able to say if a change improves the system performance and by how much. So keep a box of benchmarking applications ready when applying changes intended to improve the system performance.

To give you the best benefit of the product and to facilitate your installation, we kindly ask you to follow the recommendations and instructions below.
The QL Water Heaters are built with materials that withstand the rigors of the marine environment. Being an electrical appliance, the Water Heater should be installed in a ventilated location where it will not be subjected to humidity and external water spray. All QL Water Heaters are insulated with high efficiency, auto extinguishable cellular polyurethane.
The distance between the engine and the Water Heater should be as short as possible. Locate the Water Heater in an accessible position so that the water connections, pressure relief/non return valve and electrical heating element (30 cm long) remain accessible. Install the Water Heater in a ventilated location in order to prevent sweating which might be mistaken for water loss.
The Water Heater should be firmly secured with mounting brackets to a solid structure using bolts, nuts and lock washers. Bear in mind that the total weight of the Water Heater is its weight plus all the water it contains.
The Water Heater can be mounted either horizontally or vertically to bulkhead, deckhead or floor. The hot water outlet is placed in the far, top end of the bowl to ensure that the warmest possible water is used at every time even when vertically mounted.
