  • Making Life Easier with Templates and Styles
  • Seasoned Microsoft Office users may be familiar with both templates and styles; in Office, they’re a key to increased productivity. However, many Office users never touch them. In OOo, styles and templates are even more important than in Office, and wise users will become familiar with both the concepts and the details of using them. What is a style? A style is a group of formatting characteristics gathered together and given a name. Styles offer a number of advantages. First, they make it easy to apply the same formatting to different parts of a document; just use the same style. Second, they make it easy to change formatting uniformly; change the formatting of the style and everything using that style changes. Finally, because you can save styles in templates (discussed later in this chapter), it’s easy to use the same formatting across a whole family of documents. For example, you may decide to write a document using 10-point Arial for the text and 14-point Arial for headings. If you later decide to change to Times New Roman, with styles, you make the change in two places—the definitions of your body text and heading styles. Without styles, you have to go through and change each paragraph. OpenOffice.org offers a variety of style types, varying with the application. Table 1 shows the types of styles available in the various applications. Download pdf Making Life Easier with Templates and Styles

  • Web 2.0: Building Online Communities Using Social Networking Technologies
  • Over the past three years, Internet web sites have been evolving into a series of platforms organizing content and communications among individuals and organizations for the purpose of social networking. Sites like MySpace, YouTube and Wikipedia have shifted online activities from “browsing” to collaborating, interacting and personalizing. MySpace boasts over 100 million accounts, YouTube serves an average of 100 million video streams per day and Wikipedia contains over 1.7 million articles in English edited by users from all over the world. As a result, web design and organizational thinking in this new era needs to be more focused on building event-driven experiences, rather than simply designing information silos ammended with numerous hyperlinks. But how do consumers and businesses keep up with these changes and more importantly how do they exploit the new technologies in ways that benefit customers, employees, and even their industry? This issue of Educational Update is designed for that very purpose. WEB 2.0 Technologies Web 2.0 is the collection of server-based solutions that have allowed the web to become a publishing platform. Instead of the traditional one-way form of web authoring, these solutions invite all Internet users to share, collaborate, and contribute in the process of website development. Users now have an increased ability to contribute text, bookmarks, photos, audio, videos and more to many different websites. This ease of access to web content alters the way users interact with the new world wide web. Users can now build an online social network where community members contribute content, share

  • Adobe Linguistic Library Plug-ins Programming Guide
  • This programming guide will help you develop plug-ins for Adobe® Linguistic Library. Linguistic Library makes it possible to add linguistic services like spell checkers and hyphenation services to Adobe products, through the Linguistic Library API. Linguistic Library is not a shrink-wrapped product. Instead, it provides common linguistic services for many Adobe products; thus, it is an important component of these products. Linguistic Library has an extensible architecture. You can extend the functionality of Linguistic Library to provide customized linguistic services by implementing plug-ins for it. The advantage of implementing plug-ins through Linguistic Library is that these additional lin- guistic services are available to all Adobe products automatically if they use Linguistic Library. To provide services through individual product extensions, you would have to write programs against every product API. The intended audience for this document is developers with a basic understanding of Microsoft Component Object Model (COM) technology and Apple’s CFPlug-in API (since the Linguistic Library plug-in architecture is based on these technologies). Terminology The following terms are used in this document: Client application — An Adobe application that uses linguistics services provided by Lin- guistic Library. Lilo — Shorthand for Adobe Linguistic Library, used in some interface names and folder names. Plug-in — Except where explicitly specified, “plug-ins” in this document refers to Linguistic Library plug-ins that extend Linguistic Library and provide additional, customized linguis- tic services. — The location of the Linguistic Library plug-ins folder, On Mac OS®, this is /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Linguistics/Providers/Plugins. On Windows®, this is C:Program FilesCommon FilesAdobeLinguisticsProvidersPlugins. — The path where you installed the
  • Creating Maya 4.x Blend Shapes for MOTIONBUILDER Tutorial
  • Maya Blend Shapes Guidelines • Do not use identical names. Since the FBX plugin is not case sensitive, conflicts may occur when merging back using the same letters for a given name (for example: big, Big, BIG are all the same). Use different names. ! Note: When renaming, use the “prefix hierarchy names” (>modify) command in Maya to rename a complete hierarchy. • Do not delete the target models from your scene until the file has been exported in FBX format. The FBX plugin needs these models to export the Blend Shapes. • Use the default options (“Origin:Local”, and “Check topology:On”), except for the deformation order option. In the Advanced tab, use the “Front of chain” and not the “Default” option. • Use only one Blend Shape input per object. Do not use the “Create Blend Shapes” command more than once on the same object. • Generate the Blend Shapes on each geometry separately. Do not use the entire group (like the head group), but instead use each part of the head separately. Good examples: - Face_base with happy_face_target and sad_face_target - Teeth_base with happy_teeth_target and sad_teeth_target Bad examples: - head_group with head_group_happy and head_group_sad Using the group method will transfer into MOTIONBUILDER, but will generate duplicate Blend Shapes in MOTIONBUILDER.
