Texture caching systems are designed to overcome the texture budget limitations of 3D games. Only the textures required to display the current scene are held in RAM. When new textures need to appear in the scene, they are loaded from a larger and slower repository, or they are dynamically generated.

Early AI research emphasized the optimization of search algorithms. This approach made a lot of sense because many AI tasks can be solved by effectively by defining state spaces and using search algorithms to define and explore search trees in this state space. Search programs were frequently made tractable by using heuristics to limit areas of search in these search trees. This use of heuristics converts intractable problems to solvable problems by compromising the quality of solutions; this trade off of less computational complexity for less than optimal solutions has become a standard design pattern for AI programming. We will see in this chapter that we trade off memory for faster computation time and better results; often, by storing extra data we can make search time faster, and make future searches in the same search space even more efficient.

Web 2.0 is a new approach to Web content, making it more interactive and allowing sites to combine features in new ways. This change in paradigm brings new challenges to people with disabilities. Accessibility advocates must develop solutions rapidly. Semantic Web technologies address some of these requirements, and accessibility innovation may be part of A convergence of the Web 2.0 and Semantic Web.

YouTube, Podcasting, Blogs, Wikis and RSS are buzz words currently associated with the term Web 2.0 and represent a shifting pedagogical paradigm for the use of a new set of tools within education. The implication here is a possible shift from the basic archetypical vehicles used for (e)learning today (lecture notes, printed material, PowerPoint, websites, animation) towards a ubiquitous user-centric, user-content generated and user- guided experience. It is not sufficient to use online learning and teaching technologies simply for the delivery of content to students. A new “Learning Ecology” is present where these Web 2.0 technologies can be explored for collaborative and (co)creative purposes as well as for the critical assessment, evaluation and personalization of information.

Animations, whether they are in movies, television, or video games, would not capture the viewer’s interest if they were not accompanied by music. Music can set the tone for a scene and is generally added after the animation has been completed. It takes a large amount of work to coordinate a piece of music with a final animation, especially when specific movements must occur at certain times in the song. This paper describes a method of automatically synthesizing an animation that synchronizes with the input music. Our system allows the user to choose a piece of music and a character and outputs a synchronized animation that expresses the emotion and intent of the music through movement.

It is easy to take computer graphics for granted nowadays. More and more are we seeing products of multimedia technology that includes 3D Animations. The creative and economical use of 3D animation can be evidenced in many of the released animated features like games or movies. Backgrounds, camera moves, crowd scenes, and machines of all descriptions have been modeled and animated digitally. 3D companies are striving to improve the entertainment value of their products. The images created with these tools will become more and more sophisticated with each passing year.
