The paper develops some of the conclusions, reached in Floridi (2007), concerning the future developments of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and their impact on our lives. The two main theses supported in that article were that, as the information society develops, the threshold between online and offline is becoming increasingly blurred, and that, once there won’t be any significant difference, we shall gradually re-conceptualise ourselves not as cyborgs but rather as inforgs, i.e. socially connected, informational organisms. In this paper, I look at the development of the so-called Semantic Web and Web 2.0 from this perspective and try to forecast their future.

The IBM ViaVoice SDK for Windows, Linux and Macintosh(R) provides programmers with the necessary tools to develop applications that incorporate speech. It includes a robust set of application programming interfaces (APIs) that allows an application to access speech resources. It contains several utilities that enable developers to define and manage what the user can say within an application. There are also several sample programs that can help programmers as they develop their applications for speech. Finally, there are distributable runtime elements that are included with an application that uses IBM ViaVoice.

Why are style guides so frequently created, but so rarely successful? All too often, businesses ask for a style guide as a means to create a common look and feel, in the belief that it will solve usability problems and establish consistency between applications – only to be disappointed in the results. Even if such a style guide is followed carefully, the resulting interfaces may not meet usability goals.. This paper explores strategies for creating a style guide that is more than a simplistic rules book. By making the style guide part of the process, it can be used to promote a shared vision, to help the product meet business and usability requirements for consistency and…it may actually be used.
