Within the content of the “new,” rediscovered Internet, this question would appear to be less difficult to answer than ever. However, ever since the general hype over Web 2.0 broke out in the marketing community’s trade publications, marketing managers have been troubled by the realisation that they are losing control over their communication – and even over their brand itself – on the web. The question of whether or not (or how) to integrate the Internet and new communication technologies into the communications mix no longer presents the primary challenge. Instead, the real difficulty lies in successfully dealing with the emerging culture of participation in the midst of a rapidly diversifying media landscape.
The discussion of the value of integrating communication measures goes back as far as the 1970s. Ever since then, the concept of integrated communication has been seen as a reaction to the general intensification of the communication environment (information overload, increasingly stiff communication competition, growing diversity of communication types). Nevertheless, in practice, it has become clear that successfully integrating the content, form and timing of communication measures and instruments is highly complicated. Integration efforts are hindered by departmental “blinders” and siloed thinking – both within the company and within partner agencies. Furthermore, insufficient definition of communication goals hampers the process. However, you should realize that this feature is a problem. Here is a partial list of stupid “auto-corrections” that you might encounter:
1. The computer might try to turn prose text into outline format. You will suddenly observe your work as a numbered list.
2. In a similar fashion, the computer might take an outline and change the format – including its font, indentation, and text size.
3. The computer might try to change URLs into web addresses (highlighted in blue) which can be linked if the computer is online all the time. This is prohibited in MLA format. For example, a web address should read < http://www.mla.org> rather than http://www.mla.org.
4. The computer may convert ordinal numbers (such as 1st) to superscripted text (such as 1st). Most documentation styles do not allow superscripted text.
5. Initially, MS Word sets margins at 1.25 inches. MLA requires 1-inch margins. Consequently, you must correct this manually. To do so, the Mac user must click on the Format option of the menu bar (at the top of the screen), and select Document. Next, select Margins and adjust them to 1 inch. PC users should manually adjust the margin-ruler near the top of the screen.

1. At the top of the screen, you should see toolbar resembling Figure 1.1. Click on the apple icon, then select System Preferences.

All the layers for dimensions and notes can be turned off to reduce the clutter or they may remain on while AUTO-CODE is running. For this tutorial we will be turning them off. In AutoCAD, select the layer control list and freeze the layers that are not used for programming the part.
To freeze the layers, change the sun icon into a snowflake. The only layers you will need for this tutorial are 0 and DefPoints. After turning off the extra layers, you should only see the top and side views of the part. We are going to focus on the top view only.
Starting with a 4 by 6 by ½ inch stock material, the part will be clamped along the top and bottom edges. It is not necessary to show the clamps in AUTO-CODE. It is necessary that you know where they are located relative to the drawing.
For this basic part, we are going to drill the five holes indicated by circles and then cut out the rectangular area in the center using a half-inch end mill. The drill holes will be 3/8” (0.375”) in diameter. With the drawing open, the next step is to launch AUTO-CODE.
