  • Ajax on Rails
  • In a few short months, Ajax has moved from an obscure and rarely used technology to the hottest thing since sliced bread. This article introduces the incredibly easy-to-use Ajax support that is part of the Ruby on Rails web application framework. This is not a step-by-step tutorial, and I assume that you know a little bit about how to organize and construct a Rails web application. If you need a quick refresher, check out Rolling with Ruby on Rails, Part 1 and Part 2. Just in case you've been stranded on a faraway island for most of the year, here's the history of Ajax in 60 seconds or less. In the beginning, there was the World Wide Web. Compared with desktop applications, web applications were slow and clunky. People liked web applications anyway because they were conveniently available from anywhere, on any computer that had a browser. Then Microsoft created XMLHttpRequest in Internet Explorer 5, which let browser-side JavaScript communicate with the web server in the background without requiring the browser to display a new web page. That made it possible to develop more fluid and responsive web applications. Mozilla soon implemented XMLHttpRequest in its browsers, as did Apple (in the Safari browser) and Opera. XMLHttpRequest must have been one of the Web's best kept secrets. Since its debut in 1998, few sites have used it at all, and most developers, if they even knew about it, never used it. Google started to change that when it released a series of high-profile web

  • Freelancer - Games Cheats Hints & Trainer PC and Map Guide pdf
  • Freelancer came after a long wait and delivered exactly what it promised: an open-ended universe, tons of solar systems to explore and a gripping story that would keep you glued to the monitor. The intense action and the multitude of items (weapons, engine, missiles and so on) made its replay value go through the roof, not to mention the formidable multiplayer available. We can only hope that Microsoft (Digital Anvil, the developers are now gone) will see the potential and continue this universe’s tale. God mode Note: This procedure involves editing a game file; create a backup copy of the file before proceeding. Use a text editor to edit the “perfoptions.ini” file in the game folder. Change the “DIFFICULTY_SCALE = 1.00? line to “DIFFICULTY_SCALE = 0.00?. Finding secret bases and jump holes When you are looking for hidden jump holes to other systems, turn on your Nav Map, then select the “Show Patrols” map. The lines that appear show popular paths that the AI ships use. Almost any path that stretches out beyond the normal trade-lane traffic of a star system will lead to a hidden starport or even a hidden jump hole. Fly out to where the line leads to and turn on the “Solars” option on your targeting computer. You will usually find a place of interest. However, in places with reduced sensor ranges you will probably have to rely on visually looking for something. Also, to find all the paths, make sure to look at the “neutral”, “hostile”

  • The impact of AJAX Vulnerability in Web 2.0 Applications
  • The most striking technology application in this century is the impact of web on the human life. The current period has witnessed the increased use of web to a greater extent and the Web 2.0 has made the cyberspace as the global information space. Web 2.0 is a collection of technologies and services that allow increased user-creator interaction, content syndication, advancements in web-based user interfaces, which ultimately lead to the creation of an entirely new application platform. Web applications are the most vulnerable elements of an organization’s IT infrastructure today. An increasing number of organizations (both for-profit and not-for-profit) depend on Internet-based applications that leverage the power of AJAX. As this group of technologies becomes more complex to allow the depth and functionality discussed, and, if organizations do not secure their web applications, then security risks will only increase. The most striking features of web 2.0 are its ability in harnessing collective intelligence and bringing rich users participation. The web 2.0 has rich applications with features such as user interaction, knowledge transfer and sharing and end user as well as source collaboration. The AJAX technology is used in many synchronous environments ranging from learning to many other purposes and their potential as well as implications are addressed in many studies. The basic strength of the present web services environment is the Rich Internet Application is because of the deployment of JAVA script and DHTML for gaining interactivity in web pages. The fuse of many interrelated technologies has made the AJAX, (the Asynchronous

  • What is Web 2.0? Ideas, technologies and implications for education
  • Within 15 years the Web has grown from a group work tool for scientists at CERN into a global information space with more than a billion users. Currently, it is both returning to its roots as a read/write tool and also entering a new, more social and participatory phase. These trends have led to a feeling that the Web is entering a ‘second phase’—a new, ‘improved’ Web version 2.0. But how justified is this perception? This TechWatch report was commissioned to investigate the substance behind the hyperbole surrounding ‘Web 2.0’ and to report on the implications this may have for the UK Higher and Further Education sector, with a special focus on collection and preservation activities within libraries. The report argues that by separating out the discussion of Web technologies (ongoing Web development overseen by the W3C), from the more recent applications and services (social software), and attempts to understand the manifestations and adoption of these services (the ‘big ideas’), decision makers will find it easier to understand and act on the strategic implications of ‘Web 2.0’. Indeed, analysing the composition and interplay of these strands provides a useful framework for understanding its significance. The report establishes that Web 2.0 is more than a set of ‘cool’ and new technologies and services, important though some of these are. It has, at its heart, a set of at least six powerful ideas that are changing the way some people interact. Secondly, it is also important to acknowledge that these ideas are not necessarily
  • Pain Free ASP.NET 2.0 ObjectDataSource Generation
  • Microsoft provides a very simple layer between the web interface (asp.net 2.0) and the database. The object they use to perform this is the SqlDataSource. It works very well in many cases. It’s fast, easy to use and great for demonstration of technology and to show how fast you can program database type applications. It falls apart (IMHO) when the application starts getting larger and requiring more customization. It’s also very hard to maintain because at the end of the day, it puts most of what it does in the aspx page itself. The ObjectDataSource on the other hand completely abstracts the web interface from the database. This means that you can completely isolate the web interface from directly going against data tables. Because this layer sits between the web and the database, it allows for complex transformations of incoming data to the back end databases. This would be near impossible (and unreadable) with the SqlDataSource. In general, the bad news about ObjectDataSource’s is that they are bulky to program. Lots and lots of repetition, lots of attribute lists and lots of chances to make small mistakes that are hard to find. This being the case, it is just screaming out for some kind of code generator and hence the name, “Pain Free ODS Generator” Who This is For The Pain Free ObjectDataSource Generator (PF ODS Gen) is for engineers who just read the Why part above and knew exactly what I was talking about. It’s for engineers who know how to build ObjectDataSources
