When students use Respondus LockDown Browser to access a quiz, they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, access other applications, or close a quiz until it is submitted for grading. Respondus LockDown Browser works much like a standard browser, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, but some options have been removed or work differently. The list below highlights some of these differences.
• Modified Toolbar ? The condensed browser toolbar includes only Forward, Back, Refresh and Stop functions.
• Assessment Mode ? Assessments are shown full?screen and cannot be minimized, resized, or exited until submitted for grading.
• Disabled Controls ? All printing, keystroke combinations, screen grab, function keys, and right?click menus have been disabled.
• Links ? Links to web sites within the quiz do not compromise the secure testing environment. Students can only access the specific web page linked in the quiz – all other links on that web page are disabled.
• Blocked Features & Applications ? The Start button (Windows), system tray, and menu bars have been removed. Hundreds of screen capture, messaging, screen?sharing and network monitoring applications are blocked

We argue that control abstraction can and should play a central role in parallel programming. Control abstraction can be used to build new control constructs for the expression of parallelism. A control construct can have several implementations, representing the varying degrees of parallelism to be exploited on different architectures. Control abstraction also reduces the need for explicit synchronization, since it admits a precise specification of control ow. Using several examples, we illustrate these benefits of control abstraction. We also show that we can efficiently implement a parallel programming language based on control abstraction. We conclude that the enormous benefits and reasonable costs of control abstraction argue for its inclusion in explicitly parallel programming languages.
Sequential programming languages use sequencing, repetition, and selection to define a total ordering of statement executions in a program. Parallel programming languages use additional control ow constructs, such as fork, cobegin, or parallel for loops, to introduce a partial order on statement executions, which admits a parallel implementation. Since parallelism is primarily an issue of control ow, the control constructs provided by the language can either help or hinder attempts to express and exploit parallelism.

It uses an ingenious algorithm that exploits the structure of the web and is resistant to hacking. Here, we describe this PageRank algorithm, illustrate it by example, and show how it can be interpreted as a Jacobi iteration and a teleporting random walk. We also ask the algorithm to rank the undergraduate mathematics classes offered at the University of Strathclyde. PageRank draws upon ideas from linear algebra, graph theory and stochastic processes, and it throws up research-level challenges in scientific computing. It thus forms an exciting and modern application area that could brighten up many a mathematics class syllabus.
PageRank, a sleek algorithm in computational graph theory, shows how one killer mathematical idea can build up a global brand name. Google began as a research project for Ph.D. candidates Page and Brin when they were, respectively, 24 and 23 years old. It now answers over 200 million queries per day. Our aim here is to describe PageRank, illustrate it via simple examples, and use it to pull together ideas from numerical analysis and stochastic processes. We also point out, via a somewhat frivolous example, how its utility extends well beyond the world wide web.
The observations in sections 4 and 5 are not new. Indeed, both the linear system/eigenvector formulation and the random walk interpretation are mentioned in the original work [15]. However, we believe that there are benefits to be had from a unified, low-level review—in particular, teachers in further and higher
