  • Making the transition from 3D Studio MAX/gMAX to trueSpace/gameSpace
  • I've been a 3D Studio MAX user for over 5 years. It's what I've always used. Once you've used a piece of software for so long, it seems difficult, sometimes impossible, to convert. The truth of the matter is that once you understand the basics of 3D graphics, the core of the problem becomes the specific software interfaces. 3D Studio MAX (and its little brother gMAX) are reasonably logical interfaces. Certain tools are organized and grouped in certain ways so that with two or three clicks of the mouse you're on your way to completing a task. Efficiency in any software comes from repetition. gameSpace, like its big brother trueSpace, takes an interesting approach in terms of its interface. Many tasks can be accomplished without cluttering the interface with overcomplicated control panels and dialogue boxes. Most functions in gameSpace are context sensitive, meaning they only appear when they can be used. And the interface can be customized in so many ways; it's difficult not to improve workflow. The goal here is to compare the features and functions of gameSpace and MAX, highlighting those most commonly used in the development of game media. This is not meant to be a tutorial or a quick start guide. By the end of this document you should have an understa nding of gameSpace's interface and appreciate how it might help you improve your workflow. • Engaging the YouTube Google-Eyed Generation: Strategies for Using Web 2.0 in Teaching and Learning
  • YouTube, Podcasting, Blogs, Wikis and RSS are buzz words currently associated with the term Web 2.0 and represent a shifting pedagogical paradigm for the use of a new set of tools within education. The implication here is a possible shift from the basic archetypical vehicles used for (e)learning today (lecture notes, printed material, PowerPoint, websites, animation) towards a ubiquitous user-centric, user-content generated and user- guided experience. It is not sufficient to use online learning and teaching technologies simply for the delivery of content to students. A new “Learning Ecology” is present where these Web 2.0 technologies can be explored for collaborative and (co)creative purposes as well as for the critical assessment, evaluation and personalization of information. Web 2.0 technologies provide educators with many possibilities for engaging students in desirable practices such as collaborative content creation, peer assessment and motivation of students through innovative use of media. These can be used in the development of authentic learning tasks and enhance the learning experience. However in order for a new learning tool, be it print, multimedia, blog, podcast or video, to be adopted, educators must be able to conceptualize the possibilities for use within a concrete framework. This paper outlines some possible strategies for educators to incorporate the use of some of these Web 2.0 technologies into the student learning experience. Why should the notion of incorporating Web 2.0 and interacting with for example socially distributed and user-created videos (e.g. from www.youtube.com) be important within education? In what ways has the rapid development of
  • Volkswagen Beetle 1.8T BCS (Boost Control System) engine installation instructions
  • Installation Instructions 1) Before starting the installation make sure the vehicle is turned off and the key is removed. 2) Find a suitable location to mount the BCS. In most cases the unit is installed in a spot below the center console. The unit is held in place with the Velcro that is provided. 3) Remove the dash cover cap located on the top of the dash by pushing forward and lifting off. 4) Remove the torx screws on the driver side dash cover and remove the cover. This will provide access to the ECU. 5) To improve access to the wiring harness, unplug the connectors and remove the engine computer. The computer is held in place by plastic clips. 6) Route the BCS wires up to the engine computer area. 7) Remove the ECU connector covers by cutting the zip ties and pulling off the covers from the connector housings. 8) Remove about eight inches of the cloth tape around the ECU wiring harness. 9) Make the connections about six inches away from the ECU connectors. 10) Use the ECU pin diagram below to help you locate the correct wires to connect into. 11) Verify the correct wire for each connection by pin number and wire color code. See the reverse side of this page for wiring instructions. Calibration Procedure The rear panel calibration adjustment allows you to fine tune the BCS for your vehicle. If the setting is too high or too low, your car will not make full power. After the BCS is installed, the rear panel adjustment can be set

  • Secure Ecommerce Framework for the .NET Environment
  • Information and communication technologies continue to pervade our lives in various aspects which include health, education, entertainment and ecommerce. People need to be able to trust computer systems as the dependence on them increases. The Trustworthy Computing vision (CRA, 2003) refers to computer systems that are intuitive, controllable, reliable and predictable and that ensure availability and security. Secure cod- ing is not trivial and poor code security management may leave the developed web application vulnerable to attack or turn the application into a launch pad for serious attacks. This paper is organized as follows: Section 2 provides background information to secure coding in web applications. Section 4 outlines the aims and objectives of the project. Section 5 briefly describes the design of the developed secure framework. Section 6 highlights the achievements of the project and Section 7 presents a conclusion. 2 Background Security vulnerabilities in a system can be at the application, server and network level. Unpatched software, viruses and trojan horses may all expose a system to attack. These security issues should be addressed in any system; however these can easily be bypassed with an attack on a web application. The aim of this project is to focus on the application-level security vulnerabilities which are introduced in the next subsections. (Howard and LeBlanc, 2003) Web Application Vulnerabilities This section presents a brief overview of the most common security vulnerabilities found in ecommerce web applications. Cross-Site Scripting Cross-Site Scripting is a form of input validation vulnerability (Howard et al, 2005). Any web application that directly

  • Yahoo! Query Language (YQL) Guide
  • This guide provides an overview of Yahoo! Query Language (YQL) along with information on how to use YQL to retrieve data from Yahoo! Social Directory, MyBlogLog, and data from other Yahoo! Web services. YQL also allows you to retrieve data from external sources such as the New York Times as well as feeds such as RSS and Atom. This guide is intended for software developers who are familiar with SQL, MySQL, or Yahoo! Pipes. Yahoo! makes a lot of structured data available to developers through its Web services, like Flickr and Local, and through other sources like RSS (news) or CSV documents (finance). There are also numerous external Web services and APIs outside of Yahoo! that provide valuable data. These disparate services require developers to locate the right URLs for accessing them and the documentation for querying them. Data remains isolated and separated, requiring developers to combine and work on the data once it's returned to them. The YQL platform provides a mediator service that enables developers to query, filter, and combine data across Yahoo! and beyond. YQL exposes a SQL-like SELECT syntax that is both familiar to developers and expressive enough for getting the right data. Through the SHOW and DESC commands we attempt to make YQL self-documenting, enabling developers to discover the available data sources and structure without opening another web browser or reading a manual. The YQL Web Service exposes two URLs that are compiled for each query: The first URL allows you to access both private and public data using
