  • Chart FX Shines for Silverlight TM Today
  • Microsoft’s Visual Studio 2008 introduces a whole new set of .NET technologies that will revolutionize, once again, the way you develop smart client and web-based applications; the most notable being LINQ, WPF and, of course, Silverlight. For most of us working in and around web application development in the business world, Silverlight is a big step forward; especially if you consider that it provides clean coding practices with extensible languages (e.g. XAML and C#). It also provides some of Visual Studio’s rich programming model that we have become accustomed to and can no longer live without; such as class libraries, debugging capabilities and IntelliSense among many others. Silverlight (especially from 1.1 onwards) can be used by .NET developers to create cross platform browser-based content with genuinely interactive client-side functionality that doesn't rely on a sticky tape of AJAX. Microsoft has been working diligently with third party vendors, like Software FX, to open Silverlight to the vast goodwill that Microsoft partners have to offer. Unfortunately, much of this effort has not been exposed yet as most vendors continue their Silverlight and Visual Studio 2008 integration efforts. At Software FX, we couldn’t wait to put our hands on Silverlight and try to build a Chart FX version that you could work with today. In the end, we were able to implement a Silverlight solution based on Chart FX 7 which will allow you to take advantage of tomorrow’s technology with tools you are familiar with today. In addition, this paper will help you understand

  • Lynn Allen’s Tips and Tricks For Using AutoCAD 2008 Software
  • New D Workspace If you are using only 2D AutoCAD ® commands, why not use the new 2D Drafting & Annotation workspace? This capability displays powerful 2D tools on the Dashboard. D Dashboard Control Panels New 2D control panels provide easy access to layers and include controls for annotation scaling, text, dimensions, multiple leaders, tables, 2D navigation commands, object properties, and block attributes. When you select a tool from the Dashboard, the corresponding tool palette also displays, where applicable. Tool Palettes When you drag geometry to an inactive tool palette, it is automatically activated for easy placement—just give it an extra second to switch. • A new Specify Image option on the shortcut menu makes it easy to assign an image to any tool. • The location of tools on a tool palette is now saved in the tool catalog (and the profile), making it easier to share your tool palettes with others and maintain the same look and feel. • Use TPNAVIGATE to set a tool palette current at the command line (for programming purposes). Clean Screen Use the Clean Screen button located in the lower-right corner of the screen to turn off everything except for the status and menu bars and the command window. This feature comes in handy when showing files to a client and you need to quickly clean up your interface. Download pdf Lynn Allen’s Tips and Tricks For Using AutoCAD 2008 Software

  • Semantic Foundations of Jade pdf
  • Over the last decade, research in parallel architectures has led to many new parallel systems. These systems range from multiprocessors with shared address spaces, multi-computers with distributed address spaces, to networks of high performance workstations. Furthermore, the development of high speed interconnection networks makes it possible to connect the systems together, forming a tremendous computational resource. An effective way to use these machines is to partition a computation into coarse-grain tasks. The current language support for this computing environment is, however, rather primitive: programmers must explicitly manage the hardware resources using low level communication and synchronization primitives. This paper presents Jade, a new language designed to simplify the expression of coarse-grain parallelism. Download Semantic Foundations of Jade pdf
  • Addendum to Users Manual Ranger Wedge Interface
  • A laptop computer contains an integrated keyboard whereas a desktop computer uses an external keyboard. When using a desktop computer with a scanner that is designed to emulate keyboard input, the scanner is wedged into the cable that connects the external keyboard to the computer (hence, the term wedge scanner). Since a laptop keyboard is internal, there is no cable accessible to use a standard wedge connection for a scanner. However, most laptops make provision for an external keyboard via a separate keyboard connector (or port). Since the scanner connections to the laptop are different from the connections to a desktop computer, the scanner must be programmed specifically to operate as an external keyboard device. This is accomplished by using the programming codes on page 9. Download pdf Addendum to Users Manual Ranger Wedge Interface
  • Installing PHP under Windows
  • Not a Linux fan? Looking for a hassle?free way of setting up a PHP environment on your Windows box? Read as Matthew guides us through the process of installing Apache, MySQL and PHP on a Windows based machine, otherwise known as WAMP. This article is geared towards people who want to code and test their own, or other people's, php scripts on their Windows box. No advanced technical knowledge is assumed. This tutorial is unsuitable for advanced users. Why Apache and MySQL? Because they are available for free, quite easy to use and reliable. Why windows? Because there are many installation guides written for the Linux user, but Windows generally gets overlooked. And getting it all to work can be a real daunting task. What is Apache? Apache is our web server of choice; it’s free, reliable and well supported. In fact, as of October 2003 apache web servers had a market of over 67%, compared to their nearest rival Microsoft’s ISS having under 25% (http://news.netcraft.com/) So its not just a few people who think Apache is a good thing! A web server basically serves web pages from the server to the client browser. For every page you see when connecting to the internet, somewhere there is a network server sending it to you. The pages are usually sent in html format, along with images and other media. What is MySQL? [From MySQL.com] ‘MySQL is the world's most popular open source database, recognized for its speed and reliability.’ A Database is a place for you

  • Volocity User's Guide
  • Volocity is an innovative, high-performance imaging system for interactive, time-resolved volume visualization. Volocity is the first, multi-color 4D rendering system designed for biomedical imaging. It allows the scientist to visualize and, for the first time, explore 3D volumes over time. Using new, highly advanced algorithms, and taking full advantage of the powerful Mac and PC hardware, Volocity provides interactive rendering that is incredibly fast. Exploration of time-resolved, color 3D volumes provides the scientist with unique information that is difficult to obtain by any other means. Volocity consists of a core product, Volocity LE, which is free of charge, and three optional extensions, which must be purchased: Volocity Visualization, Volocity Classification and Volocity Restoration. Volocity LE Volocity LE is the core of the modular Volocity system and is available for scientists to download from the Improvision web site without charge. Volocity LE is designed for 2D, 3D and 4D imaging and enables the user to import image sequences from confocal and wide field microscopes and then enhance, process and display 3D slices at selected time points. Volocity Visualization Volocity Visualization provides an extensive range of visualization and publication features. The Volocity 3D view enables the user to interactively explore a 3D rendered object. The user can, in real time, rotate, zoom and animate the 3D object whilst simultaneously varying the contribution and rendering mode for each channel. The user can also position the viewing point either outside or inside the 3D object, and then watch as structures change and develop over time. Volocity Visualization also includes the
