Chart FX Shines for Silverlight TM TodayMicrosoft’s Visual Studio 2008 introduces a whole new set of .NET technologies that will revolutionize, once again, the way you develop smart client and web-based applications; the most notable being LINQ, WPF and, of course, Silverlight. For most of us working in and around web application development in the business world, Silverlight is a big step forward; especially if you consider that it provides clean coding practices with extensible languages (e.g. XAML and C#). It also provides some of Visual Studio’s rich programming model that we have become accustomed to and can no longer live without; such as class libraries, debugging capabilities and IntelliSense among many others.
Silverlight (especially from 1.1 onwards) can be used by .NET developers to create cross platform browser-based content with genuinely interactive client-side functionality that doesn't rely on a sticky tape of AJAX. Microsoft has been working diligently with third party vendors, like Software FX, to open Silverlight to the vast goodwill that Microsoft partners have to offer.
Unfortunately, much of this effort has not been exposed yet as most vendors continue their Silverlight and Visual Studio 2008 integration efforts. At Software FX, we couldn’t wait to put our hands on Silverlight and try to build a Chart FX version that you could work with today. D Dashboard Control Panels
New 2D control panels provide easy access to layers and include controls for annotation scaling, text, dimensions, multiple leaders, tables, 2D navigation commands, object properties, and block attributes. When you select a tool from the Dashboard, the corresponding tool palette also displays, where applicable.
Tool Palettes
When you drag geometry to an inactive tool palette, it is automatically activated for easy placement—just give it an extra second to switch.
• A new Specify Image option on the shortcut menu makes it easy to assign an image to any tool.
• The location of tools on a tool palette is now saved in the tool catalog (and the profile), making it easier to share your tool palettes with others and maintain the same look and feel.
• Use TPNAVIGATE to set a tool palette current at the command line (for programming purposes).
Clean Screen
Use the Clean Screen button located in the lower-right corner of the screen to turn off everything except for the status and menu bars and the command window. This feature comes in handy when showing files to a client and you need to quickly clean up your interface.

The current language support for this computing environment is, however, rather primitive: programmers must explicitly manage the hardware resources using low level communication and synchronization primitives. When using a desktop computer with a scanner that is designed to emulate keyboard input, the scanner is wedged into the cable that connects the external keyboard to the computer (hence, the term wedge scanner). Since a laptop keyboard is internal, there is no cable accessible to use a standard wedge connection for a scanner.
However, most laptops make provision for an external keyboard via a separate keyboard connector (or port). Since the scanner connections to the laptop are different from the connections to a desktop computer, the scanner must be programmed specifically to operate as an external keyboard device. This is accomplished by using the programming codes on page 9.
