VisualSVN is built on the base of the Subversion open source version control system that is a de-facto standard storage system for software projects. There are a lot of tools and services available for Subversion such as code review systems and hosting providers. With VisualSVN you can use these tools and services without limitations.
What is Subversion?
Subversion is a centralized multiuser version control system. Project files and full history of modifications are stored in a repository. The repository can be located both on a server, and on a local computer.
Each developer has his own copy of the project on the local computer, which is called the working copy. You can freely make any changes in your working copy, such as modifying files, adding new files, renaming files and folders and so on. And you don't even need a permanent connection to the repository. For example, you can work on your laptop on a plane. When a logical bundle of modifications is ready, you can upload it to the repository as a single atomic commit. Subversion automatically prevents overwrites of modifications that are made by another developer.The PacketLogic Python APIPacketLogic has predefined user interfaces that are powerful and easy to use, such as the client and the Webstatistics. However, when the need arises to do something that is not defined in those interfaces, they are not possible for the end user to modify or customize. This is when using an API is very effective. Using the PacketLogic Python API provides access to virtually all the functionality available in the existing user interfaces, but with full possibilities to customize, integrate, and otherwise adapt the interface according to local and site-specific requirements. Currently, there is a rather easy way to do this, but I see the same questions over and over again with methods that in my opinion are somewhat dated (though still useful if there is no other option). The world of DC emulation and homebrews can be confusing to the new user even if you are on a PC.
Since there is a flood of PC based tutorials, I will not be covering how to do make DC homebrew discs on a PC at this time, though I will in a future revision cover a couple of programs that will be of use to Mac users that will easily run under something like VirtualPC and do not have Mac equivalents.
Also, I will make few things clear from the beginning. By emulators, I mean programs that are specifically designed to run on the Dreamcast to emulate another computer or game system. There is currently no Dreamcast emulator for the Mac, and there probably won't be in the near future. Also, this guide will not tell you how to make bootable copies of commercial Dreamcast discs. If that is what you are looking for, go someplace else. Any messages or emails on this subject will be deleted. Finally, while I will cover this in the faq section, do not ask me where you can find roms for the emulators. Persons with more experience with GIS software in general and with ArcGIS in particular may be able to more easily learn and use these additional functions.
