  • History of Web 2.0: Overview
  • Tim Berners-Lee’s vision of the World Wide Web was for a tool which created and gathered knowledge through human interaction and collaboration. Web 2.0 is a stage of development in which the Web is progressing towards this goal. Most analysts define Web 2.0 in terms of the tools that foster online participation in content creation and social interaction. This tends only to produce lists of new software applications or claims of ‘we are the web’, ‘web 2.0 is people’ etc etc. What I’ve attempted to tease out – following examples from Tim O’Reilly and Danah Boyd – is what lies beneath these tools: what makes them so important or useful? Why are they soaring in popularity? The conclusion I’ve come to is that their significance lies in their ability to allow the average user to organize online information in such a way that is useful, meaningful and personally relevant. They help people navigate the virtual world and find what they are looking for. They do this by leveraging key characteristics of the Web for a variety of different forms of communication. They can tackle the Web’s inherent problem (unfathomable amounts of information) by capitalizing of its inherent possibilities (collective intelligence, wide variety of types of knowledge, social networks – all the potential benefits of millions of people sharing a virtual space). How does it help you find information online? How does it use collective intelligence? How does it connect you with others? How does it let you find very specialized information? • Working with Data in ASP.NET 2.0 - Querying Data with the SqlDataSource Control
  • All of the tutorials we’ve examined so far have used a tiered architecture consisting of presentation, Business Logic, and Data Access layers. The Data Access Layer (DAL) was crafted in the first tutorial (Creating a Data Access Layer) and the Business Logic Layer in the second (Creating a Business Logic Layer). Starting with the Displaying Data With the ObjectDataSource tutorial, we saw how to use ASP.NET 2.0’s new ObjectDataSource control to declaratively interface with the architecture from the presentation layer. While all of the tutorials so far have used the architecture to work with data, it is also possible to access, insert, update, and delete database data directly from an ASP.NET page, bypassing the architecture. Doing so places the specific database queries and business logic directly in the web page. For sufficiently large or complex applications, designing, implementing, and using a tiered architecture is vitally important for the success, updatability, and maintainability of the application. Developing a robust architecture, however, can be overkill when creating exceedingly simple, oneoff applications. ASP.NET 2.0 provides five builtin data source controls – SqlDataSource, AccessDataSource, ObjectDataSource, XmlDataSource, and SiteMapDataSource. The SqlDataSource can be used to access and modify data directly from a relational database, including Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, Oracle, MySQL, and others. In this tutorial and the next three, we’ll examine how to work with the SqlDataSource control, exploring how to query and filter database data, as well as how to use the SqlDataSource to insert, update, and delete data. • Postfix Cyrus Web cyradm HOWTO
  • This document guides you through the installation of the Postfix mail transportation agent (MTA), the Cyrus IMAP server. The goal is a fully functional high-performance mailsystem with user-administration with Web-cyradm, a webinterface. Data like virtualusers, aliases etc. are stored in a mysql database. Cyrus IMAP The Cyrus IMAP is developed and maintained by Carnegie Mellon University. Unlike the WU-IMAPd Cyrus is using its own method to store the users mail. The data is stored in a database, this makes Cyrus so performant. Especially with lots of users and/or lot of big emails, there is nothing such fast as the Cyrus IMAP-server. Another very important feature is, you don’t need a local Un*x user for each account. All users are authenticated by the IMAP-Server. This makes it a great solution for really huge base of users. User administration is done by special IMAP-commands. This allows you to eighter use the commandline interface, or use one of the available Webinterfaces. This Method is much more secure than a Webinterface to /etc/passwd! Since CMU changed the license policy for Cyrus, this software is going to be used by much more users Web-cyradm is the Webinterface that allows you to perform the administrative tasks to your mailsystem This Screenshot shows the domain-administration part of Web-cyradm. Web-cyradm is written in PHP, which is often installed on webservers. Time to set up Web-cyradm takes just a few minutes. At the time being, Web-cyradm does not support different roles for its users. So you cannot use it as a frontend for your

  • Universal Type Client User Guide
  • In Universal Type Server, all the fonts in the organization are consolidated into a single, secure location on a server. Fonts are managed as follows: • The administrator subdivides the fonts into workgroups intended for specific types of users or projects • The administrator decides which workgroups you need to access. • You access workgroups, and the fonts within them, through the Universal Type Client application. • Your user permissions control what you can do with fonts within each workgroup, including whether you can add fonts, share sets, change a font’s class, and more. • Some users are font administrators, giving them more power over fonts. The Universal Type Server Daily Workflow If you’ve been using another font manager, your workflow stays relatively the same ----- open the font manager, find the fonts you want to use, and activate them. The benefit of Universal Type Server is that everyone you work with has access to the same fonts at the same time. Take a look at the typical use of Universal Type Server: • Launch the Universal Type Client • Open the appropriate workgroup (in many cases, you will belong to only one workgroup) • Use the Universal Type Client to sort and preview fonts • Customize font keywords, classes, foundries, and more* • Create sets of fonts for specific projects or clients • Add new fonts you purchased or received with jobs* • Activate any fonts you want to use • Use the fonts in any application in any document • Collect fonts for output* Universal Type Server can also activate fonts automatically when you

  • Jmp - An Introductory User's Guide
  • This guide is intended to help you begin to use JMP, a basic statistics package, and apprise you of its general capabilities and limitations. This manual assumes that you are familiar with operating a Macintosh computer. Its purpose is not to explain the meaning of statistical tests and terms. Before attempting to use JMP you must decide what you need to do with your data and what results you would like to see. This manual takes you from that point and teaches you how to get the information you seek from JMP. Please refer to your textbook or professor for a detailed understanding of the statistics and probability involved in your project. GETTING STARTED To use JMP and create a new file, double click on the JMP icon and select New from the File menu. To open a sample datafile or any other JMP datafile just double click on the icon. This automatically opens the JMP application as well as the datafile. JMP looks like a spreadsheet. In order to use it, you must first fill the columns with your data. Then you must ask JMP to analyze the data according to specifications that will yield the results you desire. When you create a new file, one column will automatically appear. You can begin putting data in that column by highlighting the first block and typing in a piece of information. Hit the tab key to move to the next row. Additional columns can be created and deleted by selecting from the Cols
