Its staunchest advocates proclaim it a complete philosophical and technological reworking of how the web functions. Others declare that it is meaningless. However, most agree on common characteristics of a Web 2.0 application, such as increased interactivity, the acceptance of user input for building community and a reliance on client-side functionality. Additionally, Web 2.0 applications can be more vulnerable to exploitation by hackers than their predecessors. Hackers spend most of their time gathering information. When Web 2.0 applications push functionality and code to users, they provide hackers with information that can be used for formulating attacks. Often, old attacks such as cross-site scripting become more dangerous when used against Web 2.0 applications. This white paper defines some of the common technological components of Web 2.0 applications and discusses ways of securing them against exploitation.
Web 2.0 components
Web 2.0 uses the web for delivering information that is often created through community contribution. Wikis and blogs are good examples of these types of appli cations. The main attribute of a Web 2.0 application is interactivity. More functionality is on the client, and less is on the server. As a result, requests are updated in the browser without refreshing the entire page. For example, consider Google Maps. Instead of a static page, you can drill down or zoom in and out of a map without making requests for a new page. You can use several key technologies—or more appropriately, groupings of differentAudi The 2.7 litre V6 Biturbo Design and Function Self Study Programme 198 PDFTurbocharged engines are already something of a tradition at AUDI. The task now facing AUDI’s engineers was to develop a worthy successor to the 5-cylinder turbocharged engine. One of the key development goals for the turbocharged engine was to achieve a good level of dynamic response, particularly at the bottom end of the rev band. The goal of AUDI’s engineers was to realise a high “basic torque level” and a torque characteristic that rises in direct proportion to engine speed to its peak.

It has also given us PHP and MySQL. According to Graeme, PHP and MySQL are the world's best combination for creating data-driven sites. In the first installment of this three- lesson tutorial, our Kiwi guide covers everything you need to know to begin developing database hubs. He gives instructions for installation on both Unix and Windows, and then goes on to show some simple scripts that will insert information into a database and display that data on a Web page.
Lesson 2 covers more PHP/MySQL goodies than you could probably imagine. Graeme starts by showing while loops, then talks about the ever-useful if-else statement. But this information alone means little if you don't continue and see how PHP can be used with HTML forms. By the time you've polished off this lesson, you'll be able to add, edit, and remove information from your database. In Lesson 3, Graeme shows some of the secrets that will turn your simple data-driven site into a useful application. As he covers validation, he'll show how to prevent users from leaving key form fields blank and how to make sure numeric files don't contain letters. He'll also teach you how PHP handles includes and functions. Plus you'll see how these two features, when deployed together, can make the coder's life much easier. Graeme winds it all up with some tearful parting words and a bit of advice for the aspiring PHP/MySQL coder.
