Correcting Astigmatism in Diode LasersAstigmatism is an inherent property of the output beam of diode lasers. In applications requiring collimation or transformation of the diode laser’s beam, this astigmatism must be considered, and often corrected, if the final wavefront is to approach the diffraction limit.
Diode lasers are p-n junction devices, where radiation created by injection of carriers across the junction is confined by a tiny optical waveguide. This waveguide, with its plano, partially reflecting end facets perpendicular to the junction, forms the Fabry-Perot cavity of the diode laser.
Two general types of optical waveguides may be found in diode lasers. The first is a dielectric slab, or index-guided, waveguide, in which the optical energy is confined through total internal reflection. This is achieved by surrounding the gain region with layers of material with a lower refractive index. In a gain-guided optical waveguide, in contrast, the energy is confined by surrounding the optical gain region with a region...
DownloadCreating True Scale Map Books with AutoCAD Map 3D 2009The Map Book function has been a Part of Map 3D since the early days of ADE. In the last several releases the functionality has become very robust and a whole lot easier to use due to the Sheet Set Manager and a Wizard. That being said, there is one piece of the Map Books that can cause you to go nuts (and many folks it seems just give up)… setting a % Overlap value and still getting a scaled map book. The key to solving this dilemma is in the Map Book template (.dwt). The following is a discussion of and tutorial on how to properly set up a map book template to produce a properly scaled Map Book set (and stop ramming your head against your desk).
Overlap actually scales your viewport by the value and does NOT compensate for the Scale you set the viewport to be. THIS IS THE KEY #1
That being said, your scale affects the Viewport in your Map Book .dwt file. The Viewport has to be created to match the desired scale of the Map Book compared to the size of your Map Book Grid. To be successful in scale you must create the Grid (in model space) and use the “Custom” Tiling option. Do not use the “By Area” and “By Number” Tiling Options. THIS IS KEY #2.
Yes, I also think AutoCAD is supposed to be doing the Math for us, but alas, human intervention is still alive and necessary!HTML/SQL Laboration 1This laboration is split in two parts, the first part about simple HTML programming and the last about SQL databases, with focus on MySQL databases
Read the HTML tutorial on http://www.w3schools.com adn the MySQL tutorial on http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Tutorial.html. If you don’t have access to a MySQL database read the examples in the tutorial, these will be a great help when you start to solve the Tasks on the MySQL database. You should also be familiar with the Language Reference section.
Make a HTML with a header/title line follow by a introduction text describing this course and a new header line/smaller followed by a description of the lectures. See the above picture example for layout and text. The Swedish letters ä ö å must be written with the corresponding code!
Part 2: Table
Tables are a cornerstone in HTML and a widely used for layout.

Download PDFActionScript Coding Standards TutorialMacromedia Flash applications have generally been built without regard to particular standards or guidelines. While this flexibility allows for a wide variety of solutions to a problem, it also makes it difficult for anyone other than the author of an application to understand the code. Even the author may have difficulty reading his or her own code after it is written. If a developer cannot understand the code in an application, it will not be easy to debug the code, make changes, or reuse the application.
This documents outlines a system of best practices specifically designed for coding with ActionScript and building applications with Macromedia Flash. Applications that use these guidelines should be more efficient and understandable-and the underlying ActionScript code will be easy to debug and reuse.

Starting Concord
If Concord is not already running, start it with the following steps:
1. Start Concord by double-clicking the Concord icon on the Windows desktop.
2. If the Select Books dialog box appears, click the checkbox next to Science and Health. Click OK
3. If the Select Book(s) dialog box does not appear, your copy of Concord has been set to automatically open some or all of the Concord books. From the Book menu, select Add or Remove Books. On the Select Book(s) dialog box, place a checkmark next to Science and Health. Remove checkmarks next to any other book. Click OK.
Pop-up menus
Windows programs have Pop-up menus that have commands, which are tailored for a specific location on the screen. Concord has four Pop-up menus. You "pop up" one of these menus by clicking on the right mouse button (the left mouse button if you are using a left-handed mouse).
Concord’s Pop-up menus are associated with these areas on the screen:
• Book Text windowpane
• Citation Document windowpane
• List windowpane
• Search Field
You can use the Pop-up menu in the List windowpane to play a hymn.

You will also setup a character inside the environment and to add interactivity in Virtools. This tutorial introduces you to Maya’s 3D Paint Effects allowing you to paint in 3D. A few strokes can paint trees, grass, flowers. The paint strokes from your brush are converted into 3D objects inside a 3D space. Maya’s ability to convert 3D Paint Effects to polygonal objects is helpful to create content for interactive environments.
This tutorial requires Maya 5.0 and up. You can control the strokes’ shape, color, density, while painting on the horizontal grid plane of the perspective view or directly on other 3D objects. Let’s grab a brush and start to paint trees and grass in 3D, let’s create the ground
Download Creating a 3D immersive environment using 3D Paint in Maya and Virtools TutorialA Comparison of the GPL and the Microsoft EULAThis document has been written in an attempt to review and contrast the samples of licenses made available by Microsoft and the Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) community. As these two have now become the most prominent purveyors of platforms and software application technology in the computer industry worldwide, we feel it would be instructive for business and organisational users to have a plain-language analysis of these key components of the software they use. We will also attempt a very simple quantitative analysis of what portions of both licenses devote to giving users rights, taking away user rights, and limiting the extent to which users can make legal claims or sue the purveyors of the software from both camps.
The Microsoft Windows XP Professional End User License Agreement (the EULA hereafter) was selected as representative of the current-generation license provided by Microsoft for business-grade systems. The GNU General Public License (the GPL hereafter) has been selected as the most commonly-used Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) license. The GPL is used by well-known platforms and software technology such as Linux, GNOME, KDE, OpenOffice.org and MySQL. While much of what we will cover may be known to some readers, we believe that there is widespread ignorance of both the EULA and the GPL. We will thus make every effort to provide a clear, simplified analysis of both, to assist in the better understanding of these licenses which are very important to all users of computers.
