It generates a huge volume of data that needs to be filtered, processed and stored, and generally requires its own virtual local area network (VLAN). To gain all the promised benefits and return on investment of RFID, the network must be highly available. The network-critical physical infrastructure (NCPI) must be assessed for vulnerabilities in power, cooling, physical security, and other NCPI elements. Get PDF

As a result, the SD-H903A allows PC and CE manufacturers to make a smooth and affordable transition to high-definition offerings from existing DVD platforms. The SD-H903A features a Serial
  • Google Android White Paper
  • Android is a software platform and operating system for mobile devices, based on the Linux operating system, developed by Google and later the Open Handset Alliance. It allows developers to write managed code in a Java-like language that utilizes Google-developed Java libraries, but does not support programs developed in native code. Android has been criticized for not being all open-source software despite what was announced by Google. Parts of the SDK are proprietary and closed source and some believe this is so that Google can control the platform. Google will continue to make money from online advertising, but now seeks to extend this onto mobile devices. Why is Google Launching Android? Almost everyone recognises that mobile is the next big advertising medium. Google is behind some of its rivals in mobile (for instance in mobile search where Yahoo and mobile specialist like Medio Systems and JumpTap lead the way), so this is its way of “catching up”. They want a piece of the mobile advertising market. Google CEO Eric Schmidt was quoted as saying that “he's less than impressed with the advertising possibilities for properties like YouTube, and Web 2.0 in general. But mobile, well, that's a different thing.” Rather than building the hardware (like Apple), Google have stuck to what they are good at and built the software. In the long run they will look into where and how they can insert ads into Android. The key advantage that an operating system (OS) like Android has (over the iPhone OS) is that its open
  • Microsoft Excel Hints and Tips
  • The aim of this document is to show you how to make the best use of some of the facilities in Microsoft Excel and, in particular, to save you time when using it. Be aware that we have several other documents on using Excel, including A Beginners' Guide, An Intermediate Guide, plus a host of advanced topics. Starting Microsoft Excel and Opening Files Launching Excel via the Start menu and All Programs isn't the most efficient way of doing things; it's much easier to do so from an icon on the Desktop: 1. Open the Windows Start menu and choose All Programs then Microsoft Office 2. Instead of clicking on Microsoft Office Excel 2003, hold the right mouse button down and drag Excel from the Microsoft Office menu onto the Desktop - choose Copy Here 3. Now (and in future) double click on the Microsoft Excel icon to launch the software You can also place shortcuts to files you are currently working on the Desktop in a similar way - this time (when you drag the file icons from My Documents using the right mouse button) choose Create Shortcuts Here from the pop-up menu. When you have finished working on a file then you can the shortcut (leaving the file itself safe in My Documents). Another feature which makes opening a file easier is to alter the number of documents which feature in the list of recently used files (the list which appears at the foot of the File menu):.. • Moving Your COBOL Assets to Microsoft .NET: Fujitsu NetCOBOL for .NET
  • Using the Web as a distributed computing platform helps extend the reach and value of corporate computing assets by improving access to information and services for customers and partners regardless of where they are.Through this path, companies can more flexibly deliver compelling service, but the real value comes when web initiatives complement an existing technology infrastructure and lower the cost of maintaining those legacy environments. For the future success of web development and delivery of services, enterprises must focus on simplified integration with existing IT assets to improve overall interoperability while keeping total cost of ownership low. This focus on leveraging the current technical assets and developer resources drives savings and extends the value locked up in core legacy transaction systems. One of the barriers that companies face in moving their legacy assets into their web-based development initiatives is the expense associated with migrating applications. The first step, then,is to evaluate options so that they can make a sound business decision. This white paper outlines the options available on the market and discusses a new solution — Fujitsu Software’s NetCOBOL for .NET — and its approach to moving COBOL assets over to Microsoft’s .NET platform. • Understanding Microsoft's Web Technologies
  • In the beginning, the World Wide Web (WWW) was flat. It was an electronic library where academics and scientists posted dissertations and dusty data for reading with clunky, text-only browsers. With the advent of graphical browsers, the consumer oriented Web took off. Content became vastly more colorful. Remember where you were the first time you experienced the exciting blink and marquee tags? (I bet you wish you could forget those gems!) Anyway, the Web has evolved as a rich, interactive, and personalized medium. In the new version of Web (Web 2.0), functional pages aren’t enough. User experience (abbreviated as UX in geekspeak) is hot, and sites are cool. This chapter looks at Microsoft’s tools and technologies for creating and delivering engaging Web content. Microsoft has a range of tools for authoring Web pages that appeal to several skill levels. Some tools are more suited to Web page design, while others are more appropriate to programming. Microsoft Office (Including Word 2007) When Bill Gates realized that Microsoft was lagging on the Internet front, the word went out to integrate Web support into every product. As a result, you can save Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, and PowerPoint slides as Web pages. Many companies use the Office suite to place information on their intranet because most employees are comfortable in Word and Excel. These tools are quite adequate for creating static Web content that some call brochure ware. Although somewhat bloated, the pages are faithful reproductions of the original document — especially when viewed in Microsoft’s latest Internet Explorer
  • Beginners Guide Maya
  • In this beginners guide we discuss how to build a simple humanoid character and how to animate it. It was not our intention to give a step-by-step guide on how to build a character and how to animate it, because there is extensive amount of literature available on this. This guide can be used next to the “Learning Maya 5 Foundation” book as a source for more information and explanation. We found that although the book is very clear on what actions to do and what the actions will result in, it lacked somewhat in explaining the meaning of concepts and the reasons for performing actions. In this guide, we first give an explanation of the Maya interface and the main interface elements that are important for character building and animation. We then follow the “Learning Maya 5 Foundation” subjects on building and animating a humanoid character. First building the basic character by creating a skeleton, adding geometries, flexors and selection handles. Then preparing the character for animation, by adding controls for movements with expressions, rotate planes and vector constraints. Then animating the character by creating character nodes, keyframes, linear animation, non-linear animation and non-destructive keys (secondary animation) and the Maya Embedded Language (MEL). In the last part we discuss shortly the use of cameras, lighting, texturizing, rendering. Download pdf Beginners Guide Maya
