IS Support for Web 2.0 Services – the Next StepsThe web is changing from being essentially a unidirectional publishing medium to one which supports multiparty content creation and collaboration – a change which provides both rich opportunities and challenges. The use of blogs, wikis, media-sharing services and other social software has been shown to empower both staff and students and to create exciting new learning opportunities. Examples include the use of blogs to allow students to share and reflect on learning, and to allow researchers to share knowledge, exchange ideas and easily publish work. Wikis provide a collaborative, easy to use content authoring tool for students, researchers and support staff. Social bookmarking services have introduced user defined tags, facilitating shared resource identification, while virtual worlds like Second Life have introduced new possibilities for social networking among distance students, and unique opportunities for the development of innovative pedagogies.
We have now had two reports on Web 2.0 in the University: an initial report which proposed one way forward, and a second report following an extensive consultation effort, which improved our understanding of user concerns in this area, as well as raising the profile of Web 2.0 in the user community. Our extensive preparatory work in this area is recognised as unique in a JISC report on Web 2.0 in learning and teaching. Now the IS Strategic Management Group has decided that Information Services should start implementing what’s been discussed. This paper makes the vision of what we’re trying to achieve more explicit, and outlines necessary steps towards its realization.
Download pdf ISEncoding MPEG video using Mainconcept encoder (Mac)This document describes how to create MPEG 1 or 2 video from a DV (AVI) source using Mainconcept MPEG encoding software. You should know whether your source is in PAL or NTSC format.
Requirements:
• Apple Macintosh (Mac OS X 10.2 or higher)
• Enough free hard disk space (see note below)
• Mainconcept MPEG Encoder 1.4.2 for Macintosh
Create MPEG 1 or 2 video
• Start the Mainconcept MPEG encoder application (mccoder).
• For Video Source, select a DV file from your hard disk.
• For “Format options”, click “Edit...” and select one of the MPI profiles from the MPEG profile menu (depending on your desired output: MPEG 1 or 2, PAL or NTSC) and click “OK”. • Choose a name and location for “Output file”.At the MPI we use different file extensions for MPEG 1 (.mpg) and MPEG 2 (.mpeg).
• Click “Start encoding” in case you need to encode only one file.
• Click the “Add to batchlist” button (+) in case you need to encode more files.
• Repeat above steps to add more files to the batchlist and click “Start encoding” in the batch list to start encoding all files. Make sure to use different output names for each item in your batch list, otherwise files will be overwritten!
• Encoding of MPEG 1 and 2 takes a long time, typically between 1 and 4 times the duration of the recording, depending on the speed of the computer.

It draws on existing studies, interviews with staff at universities who have implemented Web 2.0 technologies for learning and teaching, and a week-long web based seminar (webinar) with expert contributions, both from speakers and the audience. The report builds on the briefing documents that were written especially for the webinar and the results of the webinar discussions, many of which can be found in the Moodle site that was used to support the conference.
Web 2.0 will affect how universities go about the business of education, from learning, teaching and assessment, through contact with school communities, widening participation, interfacing with industry, and maintaining contact with alumni. However, it would be a mistake to consider Web 2.0 as the sole driver of these changes; in reality Web 2.0 is just one part of the Higher Education (HE) ecosystem. Other drivers include, for example, pressures to greater efficiency, changes in student population, and ongoing emphasis on better learning and teaching methods.
Nonetheless, Web 2.0 is, in our view, a technology with profound potential for inducing change in the HE sector. In this, the possible realms of learning to be opened up by the catalytic effects of Web 2.0 technologies are attractive, allowing greater student independence and autonomy, greater collaboration, and increased pedagogic efficiency.

Download PDFMuratec TiffMaker Users ManualTiffMaker is a print driver that converts files into Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) from your software application. For example, if you send a TIFF file converted by TiffMaker to the Muratec Internet Fax via e-mail, you can use the Muratec Internet Fax machine as a PC printer. Also, by using the e-mail forwarding feature on the Muratec Internet Fax machine, you can send your electronic document to a remote fax machine without printing. For more information, please see “Important features using your TiffMaker and e-mail software,” located on page 10 of this manual.
System Requirements TiffMaker requires one of the following Windows PC environments in order to run properly. Operating System: Windows® 95 Windows® 98 Windows® Millennium Edition Windows NT® 4.0 Windows® 2000 Hard disk space: At least 12 MB of available disk space is needed for installing. DownloadMIDISport 1x1/2x2/2x4/4x4 User GuideThe MIDISPORT provides up to four independent MIDI input ports and up to four independent MIDI output ports, depending on which model you have. Each MIDI port supports 16 MIDI channels, therefore the MIDISPORT is capable of sending and receiving from 16 (1 port x 16 channels) to 64 (4 ports x 16) channels. MIDI is the acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface and is the protocol used when "MIDI" keyboards and devices that record and play back the "MIDI" information (computers and hardware "sequencers") communicate with each other. MIDI Interfaces such as the MIDISPORT are typically used to interface MIDI synthesizers with MIDI sequencing software.
The USB port uses powerful technology that allows easy connection to a "host" computer. It supports multiple USB peripheral devices running simultaneously—all without having to configure jumpers, I/O addresses or DMA channels.
On a PC—you must be running Windows XP, 2000, Me, or Windows 98 to properly install the MIDISPORT. Also, your motherboard must have native USB ports. It is possible for a motherboard to support USB and yet not have the physical port connectors installed. A simple USB back panel extender can be purchased at a computer supply store and can be installed easily to provide USB port connectors. It is recommended that during installation, you do not use a USB hub for connecting the MIDISPORT. Powered USB hubs can be used after the MIDISPORT is successfully installed.
On an Apple Computer—your OS must support USB and your computer must have on-board USB ports. All currentLow-Cost Wi-Fi VoIP Phone CS-110403-PBP1Wi-Fi VoIP Phone Details. Industry Standards and Certifications. . 802.11b/g.
