FORD FALCON XR8 manual Road Test ReportAfter spending quite a few years in the shadows of Holden and its popular range of Commodore family cars, Ford has struck back with an exciting new range of locally produced Falcon models. The BA model Falcon represents an investment by Ford in the order of $500 million. The new models offer comprehensive styling, powertrain, suspension, interior and safety related changes, and look set to challenge Holden for sales supremacy in the family car class.
The styling of the new Falcon is a big improvement over the superseded AU series; however, perhaps the most significant upgrade has taken place beneath the skin of the Falcon. Ford has introduced a range of new engine options in the Falcon that includes a 4.0 litre double overhead camshaft (DOHC) six cylinder engine, a turbocharged version of the six and a new 5.4 litre V8 engine. The new engines deliver significantly more power and torque, and thereby offering improved performance across the board for all models in the Falcon range.
The new 5.4 litre V8 engine comes from Ford’s Windsor plant in Canada and is available in a number of different configurations. The standard V8 engine is called the Barra 220. It is a single overhead camshaft (SOHC) engine with three valves per cylinder that develops 220 kW of power and 470 Nm of torque. The engine that powers the XR8 evaluated for this report is a more potent DOHC unit that features four valves per cylinder. Here's a quick tutorial to the essential steps involved in setting up a Linux File Server and having Linux workstations connect to it, using Fedora Core as an example.
Why Samba?
Although I've already explained that this paper is covering the connection between a Linux workstation and a Linux server using Samba, some folks may be wondering about the choice. "After all, Samba is used for connecting Windows and Linux machines. It's not necessary if you're just connecting Linux machines." This is true; there are ways, such as NFS, to accomplish this without Samba. However, this paper is based on the scenario that your network has Windows (and possibly Mac) machines as well, and thus the server already has Samba installed. In this situation, connecting Linux workstations to the server is relatively simple.
How file serving works on Linux
In Linux, the same general concepts apply. You create users and groups, assign users to groups, and then assign permissions to directories according to groups. The specific mechanisms work somewhat differently, of course.

Meeting Manager supports a variety of platforms, operating systems, and browsers. Meeting Manager supports various Windows and Macintosh operating systems. It also supports many permutations of browser versions within those operating systems. The table on the following page shows which operating systems and browser versions Meeting Manager supports. If you do not know your machine’s configuration, refer to this guide’s remaining sections for instructions on how to check your configuration.
Macintosh users should note that Meeting Manager supports Macintosh users to view meetings and control applications shared by Windows users. Beyond that core functionality, there are several known limitations. The limitations are described in the table on the following page. Microsoft announced Silverlight at the National Association of Broadcasters conference in Las Vegas on April 16. The NAB announcement highlights Silverlight uses for media users. The software company will announce further details about the technology at its own Mix07 conference, which starts at the end of April and runs through May 2 in Las Vegas.
Forest Key, a director of product management in the Microsoft Server and Tools Division, said Silverlight integrates with existing Web technologies and assets to provide higher quality experiences with lower costs for media delivery. In a briefing with eWEEK, Key demonstrated how Silverlight offers consistent experiences to both Mac and Windows users on a variety of browsers, including Internet Explorer, FireFox and Safari.
As for which platform Silverlight will support next, Key said, "Linux is an open question. We're looking at the desktops and browsers by volume. We want to put muscle behind supporting the bulk of the market." And Linux support is still under discussion, he said.
