Setting Options and Customising Microsoft Excel 2002Like all Microsoft Office products, Excel allows you to customise various settings to suit your own requirements. Whereas Microsoft Word has a default template called normal.dot, Excel has a special file called Excel.xlb in which your settings are stored. Note that not all settings are stored here, however - for example, each file has its own colour palette.
Perhaps the most useful customisation centres around the toolbars and menus. You can decide which toolbars to display (and where you would like them positioned on the screen). If you want to, you can remove, add or rearrange the buttons on a toolbar (or the commands in a menu). You can even create your own toolbars and menus, adding either built-in commands or your own (using macros - see Writing Macros in Microsoft Excel 2003 for further information).
Another common area of customisation concerns charts. You can create your own chart types and change the palette of colours used on charts. Defining your own types lets you apply a given layout to a set of charts - eg for a particular publication or thesis. While on the subject of colours, you can also modify the default colour palette used for fonts and filling cells.
A further aspect of customisation centres around customised lists. A few lists are built into the system (eg the days of the week and months of the year) but you can create your own. These can then be used to fill further cells or to sort data in a particular order.MicroTrack 24/96 Professional 2-Channel Mobile Digital Recorder User GuideThe MicroTrack 24/96 is a portable recorder that can record stereo audio signals directly to CompactFlash media in either WAV or MP3 format. The MicroTrack 24/96 can be connected to a computer via the USB connection to transfer audio files. The USB port is also used to recharge the internal battery of the MicroTrack 24/96. Typically, a computer’s USB port will supply enough power to recharge the MicroTrack 24/96’s battery, though a USB power supply is also provided for charging without a computer.
The MicroTrack 24/96 has an 1/8” microphone port which supplies 5V for electret microphones like the included stereo “T” microphone. Two 1/4” TRS inputs accommodate mic or line level inputs, and can supply phantom power for condenser microphones. A coaxial SPDIF input is available for recording from a digital source; the MicroTrack 24/96 automatically sets the sample rate to match the incoming stream. An 1/8” headphone port and RCA line outs can be used for monitoring recordings and playback. While the MicroTrack 24/96 is simple to use, we still suggest that you read through this entire manual to familiarize yourself with all the functions contained within this portable unit.

Over that time, technology advances means that the range of machines you are familiar with may have been superseded. As a consequence, it can be a challenging time for the non-expert to select the "right" copier for their organization. DGS, Procurement & Logistics, State Printing & Duplicating have compiled this guide to assist you in selecting a copier for your application. It is recommended that you use the step-by-step guidelines to assist in your selection.
An electronic version of the guide has also been compiled in Word for windows format.

The information in the guide has been assembled from personal knowledge and experience, reference to independent buying guides, supplier information and data gathered in copier replacement projects already completed. It has been constructed in a way that will enable you to logically address the steps necessary to make a more informed decision - giving due consideration to the type and size of machine, the features required, costing analysis and servicing issues.
The guide addresses the most frequently asked questions about copiers:
• When should I changeover our existing copier?
• What features should I look for in a copier?
• What size machine is right for our application?
• How do I work out the cost of operating a copier?
• Should we buy, rent or lease the copier?
• What should I look for in regard to servicing?
The guide also providesCollaborative Storytelling in the Web 2.0Prosuming is one of the magic activities of the Web 2.0. The idea that media con- sumers can become media producers has been validated with all its pros and cons in systems like YouTube and Flickr.com. There is a re-newed discussion about expert and amateur cultures or even cults [3]. Especially, making movies was thought to be an area where only teams of highly specialized experts equipped with a lot of money can produce high quality movies with a world-wide audience. But next to Hollywood other production centers emerged like ”Bollywood” in India or ”Nollywood” in Nigeria with local practices. YouTube has proven that amateurishly produced content can fascinate people on the Internet.
We want to combine both worlds, multimedia production knowledge and Web 2.0 production knowledge shall be united for serving the knowledge sharing needs for a society who has not forgotten the power of stories, yet. In learning processes, the substantial challenge is also maintaining and extending learners’ expertise and knowledge. As stated in [2], way that people get information to solve problems is through their social networks. Moreover, people rely on other people to get information and learn. Some knowledge is easy to be acquired and mastered when it is not impersonal, because emotions might be involved and motivation is more clear. Storytelling is an efficient means to fulfill learning goals [11]. Knowledge is exchanged within communities when stories are told. Non-linear storytelling is kind of interaction between communities and media, in order to keep people by certainProblems With Using Microsoft Excel for StatisticsThe vast majority of Chart types offered by Excel should NEVER be used! Our next example shows the graph-types available as pyramid charts. None of these choices shown below represent good graphs! All but the last one display false third dimensions. In addition they all suggest stacked displays that are known to be poor ways to make comparisons.
(For the similar reasons, Excel’s column, cone, and cylinder charts don’t seem to have any redeeming features either!)
Scatterplots represent bread-and-butter graphs for visualizing relationships between variables. Scatterplots Should Have:
Good Choice of Axes
Meaningful Legends
No False Third Dimensions
However, Excel’s default scatterplots leave much to be desired. In the following example two data points have been covered up by the axis labels. Can you find them? And is the legend displayed to the right of the graph useful? Note that there is no label for the horizontal axis.
Histograms Should Have:
No Meaningless Gaps
A Reasonable Choice of Bins
An Easy Way To Choose Or Adjust The Bins
A Good Aspect Ratio
Meaningful Labels on Axes
Appropriate Labels on Bin Tick Marks
However, the next example shows a default histogram produced by Excel. The bin labels are impossible to read, the aspect ratio is poor, the legend and horizontal axis label are useless.

According to the definitions of real-time given in (CNRS 1988) and (Stankovic 88), real-time implies on one hand that the response are waited at a precise moment (neither before nor after) and on other hand, that such systems are coupled with the real world, therefore highly concurrent. This document overviews the support for concurrency modelling provided by UML. It describes first the main concept of active object and second a (non exhaustive) list of issues pertaining to concurrency mechanism interactions. The integration of concurrency issues within object-oriented environments generated a large amount of research.
In the case of object-oriented languages, most concurrency issues are related to the concept of active object (Atkinson 91), (Guerraoui 95) et (Tripathi, Oosten et al. 99). Concrete examples of concurrent object oriented languages are Act++ , Hybrid (Nierstratz 1987), ABCL (Yonezawa, Shibayama et al. 87), Argus (Liskov 1988), PRAL RT (Fouquier and Terrier 95), RTGOL (Sourrouille and Lecoeuche 95), TOM , etc.
