This isn’t “John Muir Does the F650.” Anyone who doesn’t know what feeler gages are, much less how to use them or who doesn’t own an F650 service manual will find this document to be of little help. No one-page tutorial exists on how to maintain a motorcycle. This is a just maintenance log sheet. The intent was to make a fast and simple document to facilitate servicing your bike, making available the important numbers to preclude digging through manuals with dirty paws.
After reviewing the factory manual and maintenance procedures, I felt that something was missing. What was missing was the easy-reference checklist that used to come with BMW motorcycles. Furthermore, the factory manual makes no reference whatsoever to lubricating the steering head, swing-arm or wheel bearings. In this paradigm, the functionality provided by business applications is encapsulated within web services: software components described at a semantic level, which can be invoked by application programs or by other services through a stack of Internet standards including HTTP, XML, SOAP, WSDL and UDDI [3,18]. Once deployed, web services provided by various organizations can be inter-connected in order to implement business collaborations, leading to composite web services.
Today workflow management systems are readily available [6,49,59] and workflow technology is hidden in many applications, e.g., ERP, CRM, and PDM systems. However, their application is still limited to specific industries such as banking and insurance. Since 2000 there has been a growing interest in web services. This resulted in a stack of Internet standards (HTTP, XML, SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI) which needed to be complemented by a process layer. Several vendors proposed competing languages, e.g., IBM proposed WSFL (Web Services Flow Language) [48] building on FlowMark/MQSeries and Microsoft proposed XLANG (Web Services for Business Process Design) [71] building on Biztalk. BPEL [16] emerged as a compromise between both languages.
The Business Process Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS, or BPEL for short) has become the de-facto standard for implementing processes based on web services [16]. Systems such as Oracle BPEL Process Manager, IBM WebSphere Application Server Enterprise, IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer Integration Edition, and Microsoft BizTalkWeb Applications With MaypoleThe Maypole web application framework can be used on two levels: first, as a simple way to add an interface to a database (and not much else besides), and second, as a toolkit for building more sophisticated web applications. In principle, there is a continuum of possible usages between these two levels, but it seems best for the purposes of teaching to entirely separate them.
In the first part of this tutorial, we're going to quickly dispatch the first level of operation, putting a front-end onto a database. Not only is this useful in its own right in many cases, it both gives a demonstration of the power and flexibility of Maypole, and provides a useful basis for showing how Maypole applications can be expanded.

There are several advantages to weaving Ada into the Common Language Environment provided by the .NET environment. This paper explains our approach and current progress on the research. We provide the means to extract Ada specification files from Microsoft Intermediate Language (MSIL) code and compile Ada programs into MSIL.
Microsoft’s .NET environment provides a large set of object- oriented libraries for application development, targeted especially for web-based applications. [11,12] It is an entirely new framework for programming Windows (and possibly other) machines. One of the key goals of .NET was to provide language interoperability. Ada shares similar goals, and was the first language to include mixed-language pragmas as part of its specification. Our A# project seeks to create a fully-interoperable environment for an Ada programmer to use .NET. Ada programmers will be able to use libraries written by other .NET programmers even if the libraries are written in other languages. Ada programmers will also be able to share their libraries with programmers using other languages.
This paper presents research being done at the Air Force Academy on the A# project. We will discuss our approach for compiling Ada into MSIL, extracting Ada specifications from MSIL, and our progress to date.
