Then click the Change Password button. If you leave your computer, press F5 to log off/lock your computer. Locking your Notes display lets you protect your data when you are away from your computer, without having to close the databases you are working in.   • The .NET framework was designed to be the “lingua franca” for Windows development, with the expectation that it will set a new standard for building integrated software for Windows. However, it is inevitable that there is a time lag before .NET is fully adopted and existing applications are recoded. In particular, there is a large body of legacy code that will likely never be rewritten in .NET. To address this situation, Microsoft provides attributes, assembly, and marshaling. At the Numerical Algorithms Group (where I work), our particular interest in using these techniques is to utilize numerical software developed in C from within the .NET environment. Because C# is the premier .NET language, the examples I present here are in C#. While I use an example of data types that are current in the NAG C Library, the techniques I present are general enough for calling unmanaged code written in C from C# directly. The NAG C Library uses the following data types as parameters: • Scalars of type double, int, and Complex. These are passed either by value or by reference (as pointers to the particular type). • enum types. • Arrays of type double, int, and Complex. • A large number of structures, generally passed as pointers. • A few instance of arrays which are allocated within NAG routines and have to be freed by users (these have type double**). • Function parameters (also know as “callbacks”).   • The Open-Source Physics project is a synergy of curriculum development, computational physics, and physics education research. One goal of the project is to make a large number of Java simulations available for education using the GNU Open-Source model. This manual describes some of the classes and interfaces that are being used in this project. Portions of Open Source Physics are being incorporated into the following: • Java edition of An Introduction to Computer Simulation Methods by Harvey Gould, Jan Tobochnik, and Wolfgang Christian. • Statistical and Thermal Physics project by Harvey Gould and Jan Tobochnik. • Easy Java Simulations high-level modelling tool by Francisco Esquembre. • Tracker video analysis program by Doug Brown. Programmers wishing to adopt Open Source Physics tools for their own projects are encouraged to do so provided that these projects release their source code under the GNU Open-Source GPL license.   • Compiling Eclipse Applications for Windows With GCJ/MinGW
  • In this document, we examine the creation of native (Windows) executables for Eclipse applications (not for Eclipse itself). While we have concentrated on Windows aspects, the equivalent systems should work without any difficulty on Linux. We will eventually test the generation of native Linux executables. The advantage of compiled Eclipse application executables is that they do not require the JRE, they are self-contained except for the one swt dll. The applications can be distributed in zip format and can be moved around on a machine without requiring changes to the registry (there is no information saved in the Windows registry). GCC and MinGW: To compile Java applications to run on Windows, download the MinGW build of GCC/GCJ 3.3 for win32 from http://www.thisiscool.com/gcc_mingw.htm. This build uses a slightly older version of Eclipse (Eclipse 2.0.2) but it worked without any problems on the applications that we tested. This build includes a build of the SWT libraries so that the entire Eclipse application can be compiled. (The Swing libraries have not yet been ported to GCC/GCJ.)   • Welcome to the Python for XBMC Tutorial! This project began one day when I discovered XBMC (XBox Media Center) supports scripts written in Python. Darkie made the port, and I’d like to thank him for his great work and support! (I harassed him with questions and feature suggestions and he was always nice enough to reply to the questions and to add the features.) Curious, I decided to try to use this scripting language to display some basic stuff. Before I could begin writing for the XBox, I spent many hours learning the Python language (and, in the process, the snake bit me ;), and reading through all the documentation included in the Windows port. Once I’d finished that, I started to code some very basic scripts. I learned XBMC Python through a lot of trial and error. Now I feel more comfortable coding for the XBox, and so I decided to share my experience. In order to script for the XBox, you’ll obviously need Python installed with XBMC. Most XBMC releases include a python.rar file containing the necessary scripts. (Some full-scale releases come with Python already included in the main installation.) So unrar the Python file if you need to, and you'll have two folders: “python” and “scripts.” Place both of these in XBMC’s root directory. Note that features are always being added, so we really advise you to have the last version of XBMC and of Python, otherwise scripts written using newer versions may not work with your installation.   • The Google Library Project: Both Sides of the Story
  • Google’s announcement that it will include in its search database the full text of books from five of the world’s leading research libraries has provoked newspaper editorials, public debates, and two lawsuits. Some of this attention can be attributed to public fascination with any move taken by Google, one of the most successful companies in the digital economy. The sheer scale of the project and its possible benefits for research have also captured the public imagination. Finally, the controversy over copyright issues has been fueled by Google’s willingness to pursue this ambitious effort not with standing the opposition of the publishing industry and organizations representing authors. Much of the press coverage, however, confuses the facts, and the opposing sides often talk past each other without engaging directly. This article will attempt to set forth the facts and review the arguments in a systematic manner. Although both sides have strong legal arguments, the article concludes that the applicable legal precedents support Google’s fair use position The Google Book Search project (formerly the Google Print project) has two facets: the Partner Program (formerly the Publisher Program) and the Library Project.
