  • Car Builder Deluxe 7.3 Macintosh OS X Native User's Guide
  • Optimum Resource is proud to present the newest version of its award-winning program, Car Builder Deluxe. Sophisticated, yet easy to use, Car Builder Deluxe appeals to children ages 8 and up, teenagers and adults who are fascinated by cars. As “design engineers,” users build cars on screen, specifying chassis length, wheelbase, engine type, transmission, fuel tank size, suspension, steering, wheels, tires and brakes. All functional choices are interrelated and will affect the performance of the final design. Next, users design the body of the car, now with complete pixel-by-pixel flexibility, adding windows, custom details and paint finishes. The program then tests the car in a wind tunnel and around a test track, accumulating data about top speed, cornering ability, acceleration and braking. A complete evaluation report is displayed and users can adjust, alter, save and print designs for comparison against future creations. Car Builder Deluxe teaches principles involved in building aerodynamic, efficient and safe cars. It introduces users to computer-aided design (CAD), enhances problem-solving skills, and fosters an elementary knowledge of physics and automotive design. Car designs and test results can be printed and stored for later use or modification. Getting Started: Macintosh OSX Car Builder Deluxe OSX 7.3, System requirements: Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3, G4, G5 or Intel processor with OS X v.10.3 and above, 256MB of RAM and 150MB of free space on your hard drive. Installation Instructions: To begin, insert the CD and use your mouse to drag the Car Builder OSX folder onto your hard drive. We suggest you place the Car
  • AutoCAD 2000i Tutorial - Second Level: 3D Modeling
  • Design includes all activities involved from the original concept to the finished product. Design is the process by which products are created and modified. For many years designers sought ways to describe and analyze three-dimensional designs without building physical models. Although orthographic projections can be used to provide much of the information, they still require designers to translate between the three-dimensional object and flat two-dimensional views. With the advancements in computer technology, the creation of three-dimensional models on computers offers a wide range of benefits. Computer models are easier to interpret and can be altered easily. Computer models can be analyzed using finite element analysis software, and simulation of real-life loads can be applied to the computer models and the results graphically displayed. There are three basic types of three-dimensional computer geometric modeling methods: wireframe modeling, surface modeling and solid modeling. The 3-D wireframe models contain information about the locations of all the points and edges in space coordinates. The 3-D models can be viewed from any direction as needed and are reasonably good representations of 3-D objects. But because surface definition is not part of a wireframe model, all wireframe images have the inherent problem of ambiguity. Download pdf AutoCAD 2000i Tutorial - Second Level: 3D Modeling

  • Developing Secure Web Applications
  • Although traditional firewalls have effectively prevented network-level attacks, most future attacks will be at the application level, where current security mechanisms are woefully inadequate. Application-level security vulnerabilities are inherent in a Web application’s code, regardless of the technology in which the application is implemented or the security of the Web server and backend database on which it is built. A recent advisory published by Internet Security Systems (see the “Internet Resources” sidebar, p. 44) claims that 11 widely deployed shopping cart applications are vulnerable to a simple attack that lets hackers pur- chase goods for much less than their listed price. Worryingly, the attack does not require particular technical skill; it suffices to save the shopping cart’s HTML confirmation form to disk, use a text editor to modify the price of the goods (stored in a hidden form field), and load the HTML form back into the browser. Application-level security vulnerabilities are well known, and many articles discuss ways to avoid them. Fixing a single occurrence of a vulnerability is usually easy. However, the massive number of interactions between different components of a dynamic Web site makes application-level security challenging in general. Despite numerous efforts to tighten application-level security through code review and other software engineering practices, many professionally designed Web sites still suffer from serious application-level security holes. This evidence suggests a need for higher-level tools and techniques to address the problem. Traditionally, the task of preventing unauthorized activity at the application protocol level has been left to network firewalls. Many

  • How to Make Elegant Drawings in Microsoft Word
  • Setting Options, and customizing the Drawing toolbar. Under Tools, Options (Alt-t o), set the following: “View” tab: Print and Web Layout Options—check Drawings and Object Anchors “General” tab: If you are using Office XP, UNcheck “Automatically create Drawing Canvas when inserting AutoShapes” (The Drawing Canvas is a new feature in Word 2002, designed to make it easy to create a complex shape. I have yet to discover any value to it, and find it to be simply a nuisance.) “Edit” tab: Check “Enable click and type”. This may be useful when you are working with a drawing, since it allows you to position text in relation to the drawing without hitting the Enter key repeatedly. If you are using Word 2002, I recommend unchecking “Show Paste Option Buttons”. These buttons get in the way, and even sneak there way into my web documents! Customizing the Drawing Toolbar To display the Drawing toolbar, click your right-mouse button on the grey area at the top of the window, which will bring down the Toolbars menu. Check “Drawing”. I like to have certain buttons displayed on my toolbar. To put buttons onto the toolbar, you need to customize the toolbar: Click the right-mouse button on the grey area at the top of the window and choose the bottom-most item: Customize (You can just press the “c” key). Click the Commands tab at the top of the dialog box, and under Categories click “Drawing”. You may then drag icons from the Commands list at the right onto the Drawing toolbar. HOW TO SAVE THESE

  • Web Services – An Integral Element of Oecd's dot.STAT Technology Framework for Statistical Applications
  • The combination of evolving ICT standards that increase the interoperability between applications and the ever-increasing need for a more seamless access to and exchange of information is a major driver in the OECD ICT strategy. This paper describes the role and use of web services in the context of recent developments at the OECD to improve the accessibility of statistical information. It follows up on a paper presented at the 2002 ISIS meeting about “Improving Access to Statistical Information at OECD in Response to Users’ Requirements” and describes a technology framework – called “dot.STAT” – that has been devised for the implementation of applications that enable easy access to certain OECD reference data. The concepts outlined in this paper have been developed in close collaboration with the Statistics Directorate, specialised OECD-internal groups and task forces 2, as well as members of the SDMX Consortium3. The dot.STAT development framework is designed to help implement the basic infrastructure for the new OECD Statistical Information System. It incorporates a central data warehouse and is part of a broader statistical strategy, which depends on a glossary of statistical terms and a corporate meta-data repository. The objectives of the dot.STAT framework are threefold. The first aim is to offer a single platform/repository for multiple data/meta-data sets with different characteristics. Secondly it comprises a complete set of information broker tools to make replication from working/production databases as transparent and simple as possible. Thirdly, the architecture aims to offer basic building blocks for the (re)development of statistical production systems
