  • Web 2.0 in 2008
  • Applications manufacturers today offer tools that allow companies to reap all of the potential benefits of Web 2.0. Behind most of these initiatives lies a simple yet very promising idea for the corporate world. Without installing “in house” software (that is under the cloud computing format), companies can capitalize on these free on-line services for a series of activities requiring coordination or collaboration. These include organizing meetings, sharing contacts and documents, and creating communities. Furthermore, integration with social networks allows companies to get to know their clients and their preferences better in order to choose the ideal candidates. In this sense, it seems logical to assume that Web 2.0 will undergo a strong new surge due to its commitment to mobility, and specific applications are already coming out on the market. In general, Spanish companies have been slow to jump onto the bandwagon. There are a few exceptions, though. One of the most noteworthy of these is Actibva, the Web 2.0 platform launched by BBVA that is designed to inform users about the evolution of financial markets and foment relationships among parties interested in savings and economic topics from the viewpoint of markets as well as the personal finances. BBVA’s team of specialized journalists selects news according to completely independent criteria and offers its own views in the Actibva blog. As such, users can vote on news items and introduce their own commentaries. Beyond this example, there are a few interesting Web 2.0 initiatives gathering force among younger Spanish companies. • FactoryFLOW Tutorial
  • The tutorial uses the actual FactoryFLOW program to introduce the features of FactoryFLOW. The tutorial has three sections: 1. The first section shows you how to generate several charts, selectively view paths, and generate a workcenter utilization report. 2. The second section shows you how to make and save alternative layouts and material handling systems. 3. The third section takes you step-by-step through a basic analysis of a ladder factory. Tip Look over Getting Started in the Factory Programs Guide for a quick review of what you should know before attempting any of the FactoryFLOW tutorials, including how to load the Factory menu and start FactoryFLOW. Repeating the Tutorial The INSTALL program copies the files needed for the tutorial to the CIMFTUTORIAL directory on your hard disk, with a backup set of the files to the BAKTUTOR directory. If you named the CIMF directory something else during installation, substitute that name when referring to your directory. The files include drawing and data files used in the tutorial. During the tutorial, you will modify the original files and create new data files. To do the tutorial a second time, you will need to restore the files to their original condition. To restore the files, first delete all files from the TUTORIAL directory, then copy everything from the BAKTUTOR directory Download pdf FactoryFLOW Tutorial

  • Exception Handling: A Field Study in Java and .NET
  • Most modern programming languages rely on exceptions for dealing with abnormal situations. Although exception handling was a significant improvement over other mechanisms like checking return codes, it is far from perfect. In fact, it can be argued that this mechanism is seriously limited, if not, flawed. This paper aims to contribute to the discussion by providing quantitative measures on how programmers are currently using exception handling. We examined 32 different applications, both for Java and .NET. The major conclusion for this work is that exceptions are not being correctly used as an error recovery mechanism. Exception handlers are not specialized enough for allowing recovery and, typically, programmers just do one of the following actions: logging, user notification and application termination. To our knowledge, this is the most comprehensive study done on exception handling to date, providing a quantitative measure useful for guiding the development of new error handling mechanisms. In order to develop robust software, a programming language must provide the programmer with primitives that make it easy and natural to deal with abnormal situations and recover from them. Robust software must be able to perceive and deal with the temporary disconnection of network links, disks that are full, authentication procedures that fail and so on. Most modern programming languages like C#, Java or Python rely on exceptions for dealing with such abnormal events. Although exception handling was a significant improvement over other mechanisms like checking return codes, it is far from perfect. In fact, it can be argued that the
  • Buffer Overflow Exploits: The Why and How
  • McAfee System Protection Solutions Table of Contents Unchecked buffers Exploiting the overflow Now, for the clever part Other types of buffer overflow exploits Preventing buffer overflow exploits Summary Buffer overflow exploits are the tool of choice of today’s attacker. These exploits have the most power, are the easiest to use, and are all too common. Buffer overflows constitute the largest single threat to enterprises today. • Buffer overflow exploits are very common. There are hundreds of known unchecked buffers that can be overflowed by hackers with more being discovered all the time. Over 60% of CERT advisories deal with buffer overflow exploits. • Buffer overflow exploits are easy to use. Nearly anyone (12 year olds and script kiddies included) can download buffer overflow attack code and follow a simple “recipe” to execute it. No advanced technical knowledge is necessary to run pre-written buffer overflow exploit code. • Buffer overflow exploits are very powerful. In many cases, the malicious code that executes as a result of a buffer overflow will run with administrator-level privileges, and therefore can do anything it wants to the server. • Fiat Marea console install guide
  • The first step is to remove the old (bravo) console. You do it like so. First remove the clips and screws near the front end of the console on its sides (circled red) Then remove the rubber in the “shelf“ of the bravo console using a knife or a small screwdriver and lift it up. Unscrew the screw underneath it. Lift the gear stick gator like in the pic above and use force to get the gear knob off – grip the gear knob with your hands and pull in the direction of the arrow (upwards) Then using your finger or a small flat head screwdriver lift the mirror switch plate by inserting the screwdriver in the place of the yellow arrow. After you have lifted the plate, disconnect the connector that is on its down part of the plate and unscrew the screw that is on the console (place of the screw marked by red arrow) Then take off the hand brake gator and leave the hand brake up. After you have done the above, take out the rear ashtray and unscrew the two screws underneath. Now the console is free of any connections to the car chassis. So to get it out, pull its rear end up in the arrow direction. Now comes the hard part ! Making the went pipes to work and making a bracket for them if you don’t have holes for it. (think MK1 bravos don’t have the holes) First position and screw in the marea
